I started entry #50 of #MusicAll in January 🎼 and it ended in February so I’m also counting it as entry #1 of February’s tribute to #BlackCreatorsInFilm✊🏾

ONE THE COME UP(2022)📽️ premiered at TIFF and is a bit rough around the edges but features and excellent cast. It deserves to be seen more.

Entry #49 of #MusicAll January 🎼 is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (2004)📽️. Having seen the live production 6 times, including Colm Wilkinson and Rebecca Caine several times and the final one with Paul Stanley of Kiss as the Phantom, all I can say about this movie is that the sets were nice.

Entry #46 of #MusicAll January 🎼 A MIGHTY WIND (2003)📽️ a mockumentary by Christopher Guest starring the usual group of comedians. It’s not my favourite of Guest’s films but it does have my favourite scene from all of his movies though.

Entry #40 of #MusicAll January 🎼 is URGH! A MUSIC WAR (1981) 📽️ a concert film featuring great performances by punk/new wave/post-punk/synth pop/reggae bands. A must-watch for fans of 80’s alternative music or any serious music fan, honestly. This was the perfect movie to start off the week!

Entry #39 of #MusicAll January 🎼 is DEEP IN MY HEART (1954)📽️, a biopic about composer Sigmund Romberg. He is most famous for the biopic about him I guess? I never heard of him. The poster is very boring which is fitting cause it’s a very boring movie.

Entry #37 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was THE LURE (2015) 📽️a Polish musical-horror re-telling of THE LITTLE MERMAID that only made $108k at the box office, which is a shame, but thankfully was released for the home market by #TheCriterionCollection

Entry #27 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was ONCE (2007) starring Markéta Iglová and Glen Hansard of the Swell Season who won a 2008 Oscar for Best Original Song. They also made a concert documentary following the film and released in 2011 called SWELL SEASON📽️ - and I intend to watch it soon too

Entry #26 of #MusicAll January🎼 was the best Elvis musicals parody, TOP SECRET (1984)📽️. Written and directed by ZAZ and starring Val Kilmer in his first film role. This has been a comfort film for me since I first saw it as a kid on a rented VCR.

Entry #25 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was BLUE HAWAII (1961)📽️, starring Elvis Presley as ‘Chad’ (that’s the plot, Elvis is Chad who acts like a chud) but you don’t watch an Elvis movie for the story this is all about the music. Great setting and costumes, this would have failed miserably without Elvis.

Entry #24 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was the fantastic LES CHORISTES (2004)📽️

Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Film and Best Original Song in 2005 and won Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes, starring Gérard Jugnot who I feel is in every French movie and some great performances by the kids.

Entry #20 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2001)📽️, a film that i adored 25 yrs ago but it seems to have lost some of its lustre with this last viewing. The music, costumes etc are still top notch, but some of the character elements and trans stereotypes haven’t aged well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

Entry #19 of #MusicAll January🎼 was SUMMER OF SOUL (…OR WHEN THE REVOLUTION CAN NOT BE TELEVISED) (2021) 📽️. I love old-school festival films and this one does not disappoint.

Features legends such as Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King and more.. directed by Questlove. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Entry #18 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was ALL THAT JAZZ (1979)📽️, a movie that I did not care for when I first saw it when I was young as thought it was boring. Boy was I wrong. Good performances but the editing really stands out, it’s kinda rare that I’m particularly impressed about editing.

Entry #17 of #MusicAll January 🎼 was LAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI JUKES (2003)📽️, a documentary with some good music but it’s pretty thin on content. By far Morgan Freeman’s least known film.
