Sun is streaming high in the forest, a pleasant change from the chilly overcast of the last few days. Snow drifts are shrinking and on a few slopes Iʼm seeing moss or crocus sprouts!

Noon, mar 3, near Juneau, about 20 F, snow sifting down…as is becoming familiar, we’ll be shovelling snow down to the car, then brushing snow off the car and shovelling that, with the intention of going to fetch groceries eventually.

Neighbor reported it took over an hour to drive the 17 miles (25 min, usually) of Funny River Rd to Soldotna.

the berm at the entrance of the drive is not melting away, the snow on the roof has mostly slid off (just some of the ridgeline is still there) Avalanche Hazard is high (with concern for effects of this rainy storm).
9:00 pm in forest (not avalanche hazard area) #CBJuneau 40 F, and the brackets holding up the gutters are straining and popping as the snow starts to shift. We’re okay with not driving through puddles. #MyAlaskaWx

at 16 degrees F 3 pm Dec 23 2025 near Juneau blew bubble solution gently onto snow and watched the bubbles freeze (surface thickened, bubble clouded and shrank). #Experiment #Observational_learning #MyAlaskaWx #Cold
Sheltered by forest and tucked into a hill some miles away from the glacier, our temp 14 F at 7:30 pm and wind not noticeable (exept for electric power transients) Happy to have a good woodstove and firewood on the porch. #MyAlaskaWx
