The Durst has spoken fantastic images Peter.
My whole experience with (please excuse) #MyLeasideLife was about just that, 2024 was about the finding and 2025 was about the missing. Bookends

Defunked Sunnybrook Plaza

Boom Fireworks window display featuring burnt babies hand.
Actually I saw incredible opportunity for Gallery Space but will most likely be used for advertising Laird alone had a blank white wall about 25’ square over the second escalator I was thinking how cool a series like #MyLeasideLife would look grouped together with each panel 5’ X 5’ pieces
Mid November 2023 I moved into a Large 2 bedroom suite to begin my duties as the Live-in Superintendent. I brought the fireplace and various objects with me from the Beach the place was freshly painted so I had a blank canvas as it where.
After just over 2 years as the Superintendent I took this photo of our home just after our 3rd and final Christmas 2025. I never liked the place and never pretended too I always thought it was the too big part. I adapted made do with what I had and in the end was happy to share my space. I walked through again after the painters came through and any evidence of me had been removed I came to the conclusion “The Soul is what you bring with you or put into and Not what you take away”
Soulless
I did a walk through today Just to see how they did handing over the apartment.
The only words I had where
“It has no soul”

Hello from the other side. Behold Spot 22 reserved.
I’ve Never Felt This Much At Home in #MyLeasideLife
On October 3rd I wandered the neighbourhood throughout the night, crafting an idea on how I could make my new future a reality. At Sunrise Leaside time I had a grand concept of how I could possibly pull it off. I took this picture to mark the occasion.
With two days left in my current home I researched a method of getting my possessions to my new home. Knowing the Leaside Industrial Park is littered with U-Haul trucks I looked up the source and went to the location of the Office and booked a little Van on my way out I took this picture. This is just one example of unexplainable coincidence’s I have experienced over the past 12 Months

February 9th 2025 I discovered the message on an abandoned box truck in a Home Depot Parking Lot the truck would remain there until July 29 of the same year.
After the the record snowfall on January 25th 2026 I saw this Father and 2 Children enjoying the Snow Mountain in the Leaside Smart Centre. When I saw an opportunity for a closer candid shot so I announced what I was doing. “We are from Australia” He said “What The F… (didn’t use word because of children) are you doing here?” I joked “isn’t it Summer down there?” Great to see folks making the best of what the world puts before us.

Just got back from my regular Thursday meeting with my former employer.
When I got settled I noticed Bruno lying on my Smoking pillow. He never lays there he looks at me and puts his head down. He must have heard something #MyLeasideLife
On October 18 2024 on my morning walk I noticed the construction crane had toppled over the building is dwarfed by the other two buildings in the condominium complex at Eglinton East and Brentcliffe
Today January 21 2026 while taking in the view of the snow from 970 Eglinton East rooftop I noticed the construction crane had been removed only the base is visible on the top of the highest building in the condominium complex at Eglinton Ave East and Brentcliffe

A story about how absurd our lives have become and nobody cares they just hand you some corporate bafflegab and pretend everything is normal. This morning on my morning walk with Bruno after picking up my usual coffee at Starbucks I don’t go to my local Tim’s because they are hypocritical about dogs and have Banned All Dogs but this story is not about that it’s much more serious. I digress We proceeded to Home Depot with my work corporate card (un related) hoping to pick up some emergency cleaning supplies as I was giving my replacement orientation later this morning . I picked up some random cleaning supplies and the real reason I went Industrial Type Mop Heads (yes the kind you’ve seen in every janitor closet) as I didn’t have a supply. I circled isle 3 a couple of times and only saw consumer grade Valeta and cheep knock offs and other dollar store style mops so asked the nice lady with the orange bib who was just introducing herself to Bruno moments earlier “Where could I find the industrial mop heads” “We don’t sell those anymore” “That’s absurd” I said and continued on not sure how to understand what I just heard. I was funnelled into the self checkout as all the staff have abandoned the regular checkout lanes for this purpose. Put down my coffee (Not In The Bagging Area) and scanned items and bagged them and went through the multiple stops to complete a Corporate Credit Card payment (Much easier in a proper checkout lane) after signing Bruno’s leash had knocked down my full grande coffee cup off its perch and on to the floor at least 3 associates where watching me at this point one offers help (see photo) realizing the absurdity of the situation and saw a perfect opportunity to make my point. As she feverishly tried to absorb the coffee by throwing an exorbitant amount of those non absorbent brown paper towels and pushing them around with an Oscar broom I couldn’t contain myself. “You know what what would make that a hell of allot easier IF YOU HAD A MOP!”…
This is why we are FUCKED!

December 16 2023 Shortly after we bought our house in 2000 we converted everything to Natural Gas and got the LNG converted Webber Barbecue from the excellent Home Hardware location specializing in such appliances they delivered and installed the unit with the newly installed gas lines. Ironically 16 years later for my 49th birthday my now Ex-Wife had it professionally refurbished to like new condition oddly enough she announced our impending separation and divorce about two weeks later I question her motive behind that one to this day

Ironically if time would allow and the construction hoarding where removed from the previous photograph it would have revealed this scene two years later January 17 2026 This was also the catalyst for creating this series

Not my first foret into the concept of using a picnic table as dining room furniture this one was a no brainer at $40 at Home Depot it is still suitable for relocation to Markdale with a turn of a few screws. Usually only enjoyed solo which is sad as it defeats the purpose so I keep current projects close at hand. January 17 2026

Last Friday Jan 7 I found out that my contract has been terminated I must vacate by January 31st. bringing an end to My Leaside Life In December of 2023 I took a job that provided housing in a East York Toronto neighbourhood known as Leaside. Trying to bring light into every corner of my life I started a photo collection called My Leaside Life (#MyLeasideLife) My way of sharing my sketch book of images thoughts and notes the following (#First&Last) is owed to that collection and changes I have witnessed either internally and externally during my residency Thanks for watching, commenting and likes 💙 R&B
