A drone photograph looking northeast through the Eagle River canyon near Red Cliff, Colorado. A green cantilevered steel arch bridge dominates the center of the frame, its double arches rising from the canyon floor while U.S. Highway 24 runs across the deck above. Beneath the arch, a two-lane road curves through the canyon alongside former railroad tracks, both threading between steep canyon walls of layered sedimentary rock. A massive striated rock spire anchors the left side of the frame, warm ochre and rust tones in its exposed face. Dark conifers line both canyon walls and the ridgelines beyond. Almost 30 years in #Colorado and this view still stops me cold. This bridge is known as the Red Cliff Bridge, the Silver bridge and the Green Bridge.

A black and white view of Red Cliff, Colorado, a small historic mountain town nestled in a narrow valley. Railroad tracks run diagonally across the lower third of the frame from right to left, bordered by scrubby terrain and a concrete culvert entrance in the lower left corner. The town's mix of wooden residential structures, a small church steeple, and commercial buildings clusters in the middle ground. Behind the town, steep hillsides covered in dark conifers and bare aspen rise sharply. A rounded mountain peak, lightly dusted with snow, sits centered in the upper portion of the frame beneath a gray gradient sky.

This is a break in the forest where you and can see other ridges from where I painted - in the Laurel Highlands. (For anyone local to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). Under the blue ridges is farm land. Hill sides of mostly bare forest getting closer with bits of red buds here and there. The forest had more trees than this but I like to give it a sense and let the viewer decide what else occupies the space. I invented two mossy rocks in the front though they are scattered among the trail, often boulder sized. Dead locks lined the trail as pictured with jagger bushes all around. Green thorny stems - should jagger bushes be a regional term. It’s a scene I look forward to seeing along the trail.

I painted this the other day as part of my practice. Someone split a log for my seat holding me and all my art supplies and lunch. This is in southwestern PA. #MountainMonday #EastCoastKin

A windswept part of Herðubreiðartögl unfolds in muted tones of ash-grey and pale beige, its softly sculpted slopes shaped by loose volcanic material. The ground consists largely of light pumice and tephra, giving the landscape a powdery, almost velvety texture that catches the light in subtle gradients. In the mid-distance, a solitary dark rock spire rises sharply from the smoother surroundings — jagged, solid, and resistant — likely a remnant of more cohesive lava, standing in stark contrast to the eroded, fragile terrain around it. A quiet, otherworldly landscape, shaped by wind and time.

Earth, shaped by time — and a dark remnant that refused to fade.

A narrow, gently curving river winds through a dense expanse of low tundra shrubs toward a perfectly symmetrical, cone-shaped mountain rising alone on the horizon under a dramatic, cloud-streaked sky. Rendered in black and white, the sinuous river lead-in, textured shrub vegetation, and the isolated geometric peak combine to create a strongly composed subarctic landscape.
