The photo captures the exterior corner joining two adjacent walls of an old two-story building undergoing restoration in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The left side of the building is in its deteriorated state. The stucco is cracked and peeling, the iron balcony railings are rusty. The wooden doors are broken and splintering. The cornice has fallen apart and is black and dirty. This side of old condition appears to have been a dark cream or yellow color. The lower right side is in the same condition as the adjacent wall, and scaffolding has been erected for work. The second floor on the right side has had most of the restoration completed. It is painted a pale blueish grey with white trim which has been restored to its original design and shape. The cornice is also new-looking. The contrast between old and restored couldn't be greater.

A concrete wall with weeds growing at its base and leaf shadows cast on the upper left. Dark graffiti painted across the wall reads "There Is No Other RazoR...". in Turkish. Directly below the word "Is No", there is faint, faded graffiti that appears to say "there is...". 7b57bc6e-95db-48bc-8164-3dcf1c7a4aa0

Contradiction. The wall declares there is no other RazoR. The faded letters below beg to differ.

The photo captures the vibrant urban atmosphere of Luisenplatz in Potsdam, dominated by the magnificent Baroque Brandenburg Gate in warm ochre-yellow tones. Its single grand archway is richly adorned with Corinthian columns, Baroque sculptural reliefs, and a gilded royal crown at the apex. The Roman numeral inscription MDCCLXX (1770) is clearly visible on the façade.

In the foreground, the central fountain sends a vigorous jet of water high into the grey April sky. Stone planting containers around the circular basin are dotted with early spring flowers in yellow and violet, adding colour to the overcast scene.

Pedestrians animate the cobblestone square, small groups of visitors and locals stroll past the gate and through the arch, while traffic lights on both sides mark the transition between the pedestrian zone and the surrounding road network. Parked and passing cars are visible to the right, and café awnings along the gate's flanks hint at the lively commercial activity just beyond. Period buildings in cream and terracotta line the square on both sides, maintaining Potsdam's elegant historic character.

This low-angle photograph captures the imposing Redheugh Bridge spanning the River Tyne in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The composition is dominated by the bridge’s massive concrete soffit, which sweeps diagonally from the top left corner toward the right, creating a powerful sense of architectural scale and perspective. The underside of the bridge is a pale, weathered grey, punctuated by rows of small, dark circular drainage holes or structural indentations that follow its curved trajectory. A single, slender lamppost stands vertically atop the bridge's edge, silhouetted against the sky, while others appear further along its length. Supporting this vast span is a thick, rectangular concrete pier that drops vertically into the water on the right side of the frame.Beneath the bridge, the River Tyne reflects the scene with glassy clarity. The water’s surface is a rich, coffee-colour brown near the foreground, transitioning into a vibrant mirror of the blue sky and white clouds. The reflection of the bridge’s pier and the underside creates a sharp, dark V-shape that leads the eye deep into the centre of the image. On the far bank, a dense line of deciduous trees, still mostly bare but in early spring budding, stretches across the horizon. Yellow patches, likely daffodils, are visible along the riverbank, indicating a springtime setting. Rising above the treeline on the left is a tall, brown brick residential tower block, a classic example of Tyneside’s urban landscape. To the right, the tollhouse still stands from this bridge's predecessor, nestle into the hillside. The sky above is a brilliant, saturated blue, filled with wispy, elongated cirrus clouds and larger, soft white cumulus formations. The lighting is bright and directional, casting strong shadows beneath the bridge while illuminating the distant shore with a crisp, natural glow. The overall atmosphere is one of industrial strength meeting the quiet, reflective beauty of the river Tyne.

On Armada Way a large mural, now hidden behind builders screen, compellingly details the results of total war on civilians. If it has a title it's "Resurgam" - with underneath the words "For the Plymothians who endured". The image is that of a burning city. While this mural commemorates the people & city of Plymouth - I cannot help but think of the death and destruction that is today wreaked by more modern, & more powerful, psychotic warlords on Ukraine, Lebanon, Gaza & Iran.

The image features a close-up view of a tree with vibrant pink blossoms, set against a clear blue sky. The tree branches spread intricately across the entire frame, creating a network of dark lines that contrast with the delicate pink flowers. The blossoms are numerous and densely populate each branch, showcasing shades of pink and white amidst fresh green leaves. In the background, the top of a church is partially visible behind the branches. The lower right corner includes a section of a brick wall, adding texture to the image.

View of a footpath and suburban streets at a T junction. Eight wheelie bins are on the footpath, in two groups. One group, towards the front, has red bins, two are one size, the other smaller. The other group has mostly yellow lids, with one red. The yellow bins are all the same size, the red smaller. One of the yellow lids is open. The council is shown to be Inner West by the logo on the bins, in Sydney. Cars are parked on the street. Two trees and a power pole are on the verge. A yellow sigh, only partly seen is attached to metal pole by the red bin group. Part of a white sign is seen below the yellow sign, attached to an unseen metal pole. Across the road is another red bin left on the verge, close to a power pole and a car parked on the street.

It was a nice afternoon, all the bins were (still, after five days but who's counting??) out. And not a bin chicken in sight.

Nearly 40 yrs ago, I'd recently been told, "Photograph me! I'm an abstract in nature!" by this individual. I was horribly averse to the inclusion of people in ANY of my artistic endeavors! -Little did I yet know that dozens of people would soon approach me/us to give representations of themselves in this art. It was very humbling in short order, as well. Here is that person napping. It's a whole negative exposure print through my new Beseler enlarger. Our kitchen was also newly converted into a part-time darkroom/photolab! She's asleep, with her sheets bunched about her upper body, with one elbow jutting out straight towards the viewer. Her face is incredibly calm, surrounded by her very thick, smooth & dark hair. My very first art photography professor held this print up & said, "This is a fine example of what you should aspire to, from composition to print." -I was stunned.

I was ALWAYS creating sepia toned prints & proofs, from film into the digital era. Here's our print enlargement (approximately 8x10) of the previous image, but given a sepia bath before rinsing, hanging & drying. I usually worked in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 & 11x14 inch enlargement prints. Most often my choice fell upon 8x10 prints mounted upon 11x14 boards, placed in all types of frames, plain to ornate. I also seldom made negative strip proof sheets, in favor of 4x6s or 5x7s in order to more easily share our endeavors with others. There's THOUSANDS (if not more!) of proof prints, carefully stored & in the possession of collaborators/'models'. -There was seldom much money involved with the prints, aside of gratuities -if so desired to be given. Collaboration was our joys being shared with the end products of our work, together. Enjoy. Truth be told, this portion of doing film photography didn't begin until my early thirties! -Start late, but DO get started. Study other mediums, perspective and composition. I chose to rarely view other photographers' works, in order to not imitate, even without thinking that I'd been influenced!
