Recently there's been a lot of talk about Male VTubers in social media after the recent Holostars announcement. (TL;DR, they are defunding the Male Hololive JP branch) I wonder, what are your thoughts about male VTubers? Do you watch any male VTubers on the regular? and if so, what are your favorite attributes? If not, what could they do better? Do they really serve no purpose? (from Asmongold's take) Eager to hear your thoughts. 💭 i think this is just one of a few topics that big vtubers pretend to care about on social media to bump their engagement numbers tbh. whether it be pushing misandrist narratives and using it as an excuse to classify an entire gender and its subgenders as sexual predators, or as a way to do the opposite and glaze the shit out of male vtubers and tell them how valid and wonderful they are, for the most part i don't think any of this matters beyond raw business. there is no question that female, or at least female presenting vtubers get more attention. the entertainment industry runs on male gaze and its easier to weaponize "sex sells" when its female performers rather than male ones, especially nowadays with the current turn toward anti-lgbt etc (so rip profitting off of gay capitalism). its nothing new, its just the same old sad status quo. for my part i try to not even give any attention to this discourse when it pops up anymore, especially since i inhabit a space that's even more niche than "male" vtubers (femboys). doing so feels like a massive waste of time. oh right and asmongold just recently got banned off twitch, again. he has no opinions of his own or if he does he keep them close to his chest and largely just says the most provocative shit he can to get as many views as he can, rage or otherwise. he and pretty much all flesh (and some vtubers) tubers in that particular space act the same way. participating in the semi annual "shit on male presenting vtubers" trend is just easy ad revenue for him. tomorrow it'll totall…
Part of why I like #myoshi is that it succeeds in one of its primary objectives, which is giving space for actual discourse with the lengthy responses they deserve.
