Watching. From kitchen window. The tree creeper (certhia familiaris) creeps, weaves, hangs, spirals around the Apple tree bole. It was movement, seemingly of the bark itself, that gave away ‘ki’ presence before id of white belly and tweezer bill.

Ghost meadows The battle to save Bristol's ancient meadows from housing development.

Good morning - or is it?

'The planning application received almost 800 objections, including the local councillors'

My friend writes of her local meadows an SNCI site, where hearts have been pushed to their limits to no avail:

A sky mottling from greys to cadmium white, moves in still shot, trees black reach towards it

Clouds the chin of a fin whale,
Impasto striped
pearl glades in pebble swathes,
a single cluster cauliflower
unfurls it's slow body:
caterpillar
dragon
soup.
Air prepared for show,
Listen to what you can see.

This month's essay weaves my discovery of old rig and furrow - and its legacy of collective care - with the realisation of my own garden's season of isolation. #naturewriting
