Last days in Boston for #NCSS24 Checked out the #BostonPublicLibrary & Map collection. I found the original map used on #STAAR. I will continue to show it as an example of thinking critically. #MITMueseum and the #IsabellaStewartGardner are both amazing! Check them out! #Museumsaremyhappyplace

I also got some of the info from the poster session @mapm8ker.bsky.social related to historical empathy. I teach a WW2 elective and historical empathy big for me! Thanks for that! #sschat #ncss24

@icivics.bsky.social sponsored a great session with Sam Wineburg moderated by Emma Humphries, “lateral reading is rooted in humility” key idea on battling misinformation! #ncss24 #sschat

Another I enjoyed was the clinic from World History Digital Edu on North Korea. The totalitarian ranking activity is perfect for many subjects! #sschat #ncss24

I’ll highlight another! The Bada$$ women were amazing as usual! @mapm8ker.bsky.social and the others! Love the emphasis on finding her story in local history and that history belongs to all of us. I shared the resources with colleagues today who loved it! #sschat #ncss24

Loving all the #NCSS24 posts but also having serious regrets over not going. I haven’t been to a conference in years and was apprehensive about going alone. Maybe next year—I have plenty of time to talk myself into it!

I wasn’t able to attend #NCSS24 but if any #SSChat folks teach a state and local politics course at the high school level, I’d love to connect. I’ve been teaching a California-focused course I designed for five years and sometimes I feel like an island.

Now that #ncss24 & #ncte24 were held in the same city on the same dates… can we please get a conference together? We can call it the HUMAN convention for humanities. Just imagine what we could do together… I’d be happy to help make it happen… As a history teacher and reading specialist and author…

Letters from a Prophet by Zimarina Sarwar illustrated by Giorgio Bacchin I’m not a fan, as a general rule, of lift the flap books for toddlers (they just tear them), so imagine my delight when I was completely captivated with a lift the flap book for middle grade …
