Freshly returned from the excellent 2025 NECS conference "Discovering/Uncovering: Navigating the Complexities of Screen Media," hosted by Lusófona University in Lisbon.

I greatly appreciate the productive engagement throughout the conference. #NECS2025

Still thinking about #NECS2025 in Lisbon last week. It was an honor to present on the panel "Socialism Goes Global: Cold War Geopolitics Beyond Europe" with @cheryldueck.bsky.social, Deniz Göktürk, and Balázs Varga. More in Montpellier? [Photo credit: @nwbaer.bsky.social]

Situācija mazās kopienās, kur cits citu pazīst un ir visnotaļ cieši saistīti dažādās atkarības attiecībās, kino pētnieku nostāda tādu izaicinājumu priekšā, kādus nepazīst lielo kino valstu kino zinātnieki. 6/6

Final panel of #NECS2025 for me this year was on experiments in decolonial worldbuilding in the Algerien film magazine "Les deux écrans" (1979 - 1984). Another historical example that film criticism is almost always closly connected to politics.

Pirmo reizi Eiropas lielākajā kino un mediju pētniecības konferencē NECS ir tik plaši pārstāvēta Latvijas kino pētnieku kopiena!

No kreisās: Astra Zoldnere, Zane Balčus, lidmašīna, pati, Dita Rietuma.

Eiropā lielākajai kino un mediju pētniecības konferencei NECS, kura šogad notiek Lisabonas universitātē, ir īpašs audiālais līmenis. Ik pa 2 minūtēm. 🤣

An outstanding (but very grim) keynote by Lee Grieveson on the digital as a biopolitical practice of information control.
