Open Letter to Twitch Staff, Twitch community, and Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch: I see no reason for Age Verification. This was not thought through by compliance and could potentially be a legal risk for Twitch, especially because you already store vital information about your partner/affiliate streamers. 1) We send LEGAL TAX INFORMATION to Twitch when we affiliate. These are items that contain our Social Security/Identity Document numbers along with our Government Tax information, which more often than not already have our date of birth, and other identifiable information that should not be shared online freely. We take a risk on your platform to give you this information, trusting that this information is secure and that it will be used responsibly. 2) I refuse to give any identity information to Persona, as this feels like massive online identity surveillance. Many of us show our faces on Twitch, and some of us like using digital avatars as a means to add a layer of anonymity. Forcing age verification for any of the above (or even if you don't have a digital avatar/use a camera to show your face on stream) seems to a breach of trust that users have grown with Twitch over the years as a leading streaming platform. 3) With the recent backdoor that was found to Persona, I do not trust that the data is secure, and that it is a valuable target for bad actors to steal our information and sell it on the dark web, or use it for identity fraud. As it stands, this is a massive security threat for some and their threat level requires that as little identity information is given as possible. Added to this, We don't know what they use our faces for and it's really a bad call for this to happen. 4) This is a PR nightmare waiting to happen.
