🌱 my spring garden hasn't really even done anything yet and I'm already thinking about my summer planting. Have to pick stuff that will thrive in the Texas summer heat. Second round of tomatoes/peppers, for sure, but okra (def), maybe black eyed peas? Winter squash also... 🤔

Busy weekend in the garden 🌱! After 2 truckloads of dirt that I had to move, the new beds are filled. Then I did ALL THE PLANTING/SOWING! 😁 Last thing is to finish barricading the sides of the beds until I can get more chicken wire, to keep all the 2 and 4 legged creatures out.

My silly dog likes the ice just as much as she loves snow. We have about 4" of sleet and snow with a hard crust and she cannot get enough of rolling on it. #NTexas
We are set for supplies for the ice storm in #NTexas, but I underestimated my liquor supply. I think I'll have my last martini tonight, there's no wine or beer, and probably won't be able to go anywhere until Tuesday at the earliest. Whatever shall I do?

🌱 Winter has decided to briefly stop by #NTexas, but in the next couple of weeks, I think it's fruit tree pruning time. I've never done it, so I'm very intimidated. Watching lots of videos, but any recs showing pruning on young trees, I'd appreciate it! Peach and apple, 1 & 2 y.o. trees.

I sowed carrots this morning, which I'm pretty sure was both too late and too early in #NTexas. I've never grown them, so we'll see what happens. Onions are already out to buy, a little early. My gardening calendar is going to reset once the onions go in the ground in 3 weeks. 🌱 #gardening
I don't think I want to be a homesteader, but looking for ways to improve my gardening seems to have led me down that path on YouTube. It's fascinating, for sure, and kudos to those that do it.
I need more expertise in growing in North Texas, though, in the channels I follow.

A mess of weed grass (Johnson grass), a white pot, and a wire fence with green t-posts. In front of the fence there is a pile of hardwood mulch, put down to kill the grass so a flower bed can be built there. The flower bed will eventually extend the length of the fence, which is about 20 feet.

The main space is mostly grass, which will be covered with cardboard and hardwood mulch, to kill the grass. A native/adapted plant pollinator garden will eventually take up a lot of this space.
🌱 It's too hot to plant anything now, and we are in the "let's just survive the summer" part of the year. Fall veggies are in and covered with shade cloth, native plants are doing their thing, so what do I do? Start planning for more beds. Cardboard and mulch time! #gardening #NTexas

🌱 The summer heat is most definitely here. I need to put up my shade cloth. I also put up 12 more pints of pickles and have pretty much come to the end of the cucumber vines. I'm going to pull those soon, let the bed rest for a little bit, then sow winter squash. #gardening #NTexas
