Yesterday was #NationalCatfishDay. To celebrate, I went fishing and used a catfish (Ameiurus natalis) as bait to catch a bigger catfish (Pylodictis olivaris). Not quite the monster I was hoping for...

No one told me it was #nationalcatfishday!!!

P.S. "Namazu" below is spelled with old orthography: なまづ instead of なまず. Also, that づ looks like and derives from the kanji 川 but it's actually a hiragana (or more accurately, hentaigana 変体仮名).
Is it weird that I truly love this weird old language??

Today is #nationalcatfishday! Did you know catfish that live in African freshwater rivers can zap! They have electric organs they use to stun prey. For more fun facts about fish, grab a copy of FREAKY, FUNKY FISH, published by Running Press Kids, illustrated by Claire Powell.

Let’s not forget infamous Amazon “vampire catfishes” of the family Trichomycteridae. Several species attach to gills of larger fishes and engorge on blood. Several myths about “human attacks” too https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candiru

It’s #NationalCatfishDay! Although the original purpose was to celebrate “value of farm-raised catfish”, let’s also consider catfish biodiversity. #DidYouKnow there are over 3,000 described species of catfish, and 1 in 20 vertebrate species is a catfish?!!
