Love being back doing National Gallery Talk and Draw sessions. This month we concentrated on Millet’s The Winnower. Quick shape sketch, drawing the figure out with a rubber, & finally using colour to add life. #nationalgallery #nationalgallerylondon #sketch #draw #art #pencilsketches #mentalhealth

Duccio, The Raising of Lazarus. About 1308-11. On the left Jesus, in a red robe and blue cloak, is surrounded by the disciples. One of Lazarus's sisters, probably Mary, in a red robe, crouches at his feet. The other sister, probably Martha, stands beside him in a green robe and red shawl. He holds out his right hand as he calls Lazarus out of the tomb, a vertical niche in the grey rock. Lazarus, still in his shroud, stands looking back at him. The disciple nearest Lazarus, in a yellow cloak, is holding it over his nose, with a look of disgust at the smell of the tomb.

Floor-up view of Parmigianino’s restored and reframed painting ‘The Vision of Saint Jerome’, taken at the National Gallery, London. The tall rennaissance painting is framed in gold against a cool, teal-blue wall. At the top of the picture, in the arch of the frane, the Virgin is represented as the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. She sits on the crescent the moon, holding the Christ child who actively twists at her knees. Her body is distorted, her legs massive compared to her delicate head and neck. Below her, to our right, Saint Jerome sleeps on the ground, exhausted from his vigils in the wilderness, clutching a cross with the crucified Christ. His pose is muscular and foreshortened. In the foreground, immediately before us, a stunning John the Baptist kneels on one knee, staring directly at the viewer, his body twisting so that he points with his right hand to the Christ child over his left shoulder, the line of his arm, hand and finger pointing up, inviting us to see.
