Emerald Bay from the mountain highway above it. It is surrounded by hills covered with evergreen tree, except for one taller section at the right of the photo, which is bare. In the distance there are mountains enshrouded in fog or haze. The water is a beautiful blue-green color. Toward the far left of the photo is Fannette Island, a small island in the middle of the bay. The sky above the hills is a light blue.

Caledon State Park, King George County, VA

Caledon State Park is over 2,000 acres and was established in 1974. Located along the Potomac River, it is a designated #nationalnaturallandmark because of its old-growth oak-tulip poplar forest. The tress are SO TALL.

While this may look like a pond, it’s actually a visible part of the Lost River near Orleans, Indiana. A National Natural Landmark, Wesley Chapel Gulf’s Boiling Spring is so named because during heavy rains the water in the pit becomes violently turbulent and can rise as much as five feet. In dry weather channels running into the surrounding woods can be seen, but they serve to move water away from Boiling Spring rather than into it. Indiana’s Lost River is 87 miles long, 23 of which run underground.

This year marks 60 years since Rancho La Brea was designated a #NationalNaturalLandmark for having the largest and most diverse assemblage of extinct Ice Age plants and animals in the world!⁣
