Mossy green and red ball on a dog rose plant in a hedgerow - a rose gall, caused by a parasitic wasp laying its eggs - the developing larva secretes chemicals which cause the plant to create a gall around it.

Following on from finding some different oak galls a couple of weeks ago, I present to you the flamboyant mossy rose gall!
