A dramatic black and white image of asteroid 433 Eros, taken by the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft from an altitude of approximately 50 kilometers. The image showcases the asteroid's rugged surface, littered with boulders, with the largest one, roughly 30 meters across, situated near a shadowy crater. The sun's rays illuminate the scene, creating striking contrasts and shadows. This near-Earth asteroid's journey from the main asteroid belt highlights the gravitational forces shaping our solar system.
