Never Ceded: Feature films directed by Australian Indigenous / First Nations / Aboriginal peoples 60,000 years of storytelling, 130 years of cinema... 30 feature films? This list is appallingly small but will hopefully grow exponentially as the years go on. I've only included anthology films when all or the majority of chapters were directed by Australian Indigenous filmmakers. Excludes TV movies, series or short films - this is a list of feature films, made for theatrical or streaming release.

Some film recommendations for this day. #NeverCeded #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NotADateToCelebrate

Fiona,

January 26 is not a day of rejoice. It is a Day of Mourning, a Day of Survival, a Day that marks 237 since the British First Fleet invaded this land.

We mourn the Genocide against our people, attempted decimation of language, dance and ceremony. The theft and destruction of our Country and songlines, and the loss of our children. We mourn for those who have died and suffered at the hands of the colonial project.

When the British colonised these lands, we never negotiated how we could live together peacefully. The war that started with invasion continues through deaths in custody, child removals and desecration of Country.

This January 26th, attend your local Dawn service or rally and stand in solidarity with First Peoples across this continent. A list of some of the events in different locations is below.

We want peace, but to move forward together and heal we must tell the truth about the foundation of this country. Every day is Invasion Day until we have a Treaty in this Country.

Treaty is an end to the war that was declared on us when the ships arrived. It is a peace making instrument and a way for two Sovereign parties to negotiate on a way forward and agree through an internationally recognised formal legal agreement.

Treaty will give everyone in this nation something to celebrate. Truth and Treaty would end the suffering, heal the wounds and unite us.
