Solstice, this morning at Newgrange, Ireland #NewgrangeSolstice
#NewgrangeSolstice earlier today 🇮🇪
☀️ The light slowly creeping through the corridor, illuminating the inner chamber, as the northern hemisphere gradually starts facing the sun again. The ancestral beauty of it all
I was curious about this while I watched. Was it less cloudy in the winter in Ireland 5000 years ago?
#NewgrangeSolstice
So moving to watch the light enter and hear everyone cheer #newgrangesolstice… the beauty and joy of shared reverence.
My annual solstice practice of watching the livestream of the #newgrangesolstice. 5000+ years of celebrating, the light will return. #witchsky #druidsky #newgrange
Catching up on #newgrangesolstice here in NY! www.youtube.com/live/lRgumO6...
The guardians of the Galaxy (this version is lead by Major Vance Astro who looks like a young Captain America with long hair and a headband), stand in front of a version of Newgrange. Yellowjacket aka Rita De Mara announces that ‘it’s beautiful … and a little eerie!’ Talon, an orange furred feline looking fella replies ‘you got that right, Rita!’
A full page panel of the hound of Ulster, Cú Chulainn, standing over the unconscious form of the brawny, bald-headed Charlie-27. The origin has a massive green and gold cloak , is wearing a helmet, and his red hair is in a single long braid. He holds aloft the Gae Bolga. He declares that ‘none may cross the threshold lest they deal with the greatest warrior of all time’.
A full page panel of screaming despairing faces, the spirits of those who died in war, released by Shamrock, a red haired Irish superhero dressed in a green leotard, leggings, boots and gloves. The spirits steam across the page to the upper left hand corner where Samhain, a king of the underworld writhes in torment at all the sorrow.
A sequence of panels showing the sun rising over some distant mountains, and a beam of its light shoots in through the entrance of Newgrange (totally missing the roof box over the entrance, but I digress), illuminating the inside of the tomb including the Book of Kells, which once read will go help the guardians save humanity from the martians.
For the day that’s in it, that time the Guardians of the Galaxy, the hound of Ulster and Shamrock fought Samhain in order to read the Book of Kells by the light of the Solstice. #newgrangesolstice
#NewgrangeSolstice thank you Clare and Frank a fine morning with you and the ancestors today and happy new year

And there was last-minute sunshine in the chamber at Newgrange, Co. Meath for the winter solstice this morning!

Screen shot of a YouTube stream labelled #NewgrangeSolstice, winter solstice live streaming, 21 December 2025, office of public works, 11428 watching now
nice to think that over 1000 people went to take a chance on seeing the winter solstice sun rise in person (it is Ireland!), and over 11k watched the live stream from the Office of Public Works cameras

Enjoyed the live Solstice sunrise broadcast from this spectacular Irish passage tomb this morning - even tho' the sun wasn't as co-operative as last year! #NewgrangeSolstice

Black & white photograph of the exterior of Newgrange in the 1930s when the mound was covered by trees & scrub growth. A group of people are standing in front of the mound on the right hand side of the image. The photo was taken by a member of the family of Bill Cox who grew up in Limerick City.
Love the pre-Xmas tradition we have now of watching the #NewgrangeSolstice livestream from @opwireland.bsky.social
The B/W photo shows Newgrange in the 1930s before archaeological restoration. We found it in the home of our aunt & uncle Maureen & Bill Cox (RIP) - taken by someone in Bill's family.
To whomever in the OPW who decided to livestream #NewgrangeSolstice on UStream in 2008/9, thank you. Thank you for making this experience bigger and bigger each year.
The sun came out at Newgrange/Bru na Boinne looking to the horizon with crowds in the foreground, but it was just a little too late for the sun to hit the back of the tomb.
A pic of the two narrators with their headphones on, Dr. Frank Prendergast of Technological University Dublin and Clare Tuffy, Former Manager, Bru na Boinne, long may they reign!
A sliver of light in the Newgrange I assage tomb from inside
A view into the passage tomb from the entrance with light starting to illuminate the sides, but the sun really came out just minutes too late to hit the back of the chamber.
Well, the sun came out at Newgrange but just a few minutes late for it to fill the passage tomb. You could see a small hopeful sliver of light, though. As always, the narration by Clare & Frank was magical, and for me often the best pt of the holidays. Thank you to Ireland's OPW! #NewgrangeSolstice

We didn't quite get the perfect amount of light but we got light. The sun is beaming around my house now too 🌞 what a special morning #NewgrangeSolstice
Started the day watching the livestream of the #newgrangesolstice with cat on lap, and think I'll head off on the bike for a bit of birdwatching in the estuary. Bright winter days were made for this!
Always a delight to spend the solstice with the #NewgrangeSolstice livestream 🌤
A sacred monument - a magnificent piece of science and engineering!
Watching #NewgrangeSolstice enlightening the core pathway from🇨🇭with slightly cloudy conditions.

A screenshot from a livestream labelled Government of Ireland, the screen is mostly black with a triangle of light thru a gap on the right, the light falling on the floor of the space
Well that was great. Thanks to everyone who brought us that broadcast ☀️🌞🌅 #NewgrangeSolstice
That was fun. I set a reminder on my calendar to watch it again next year
#NewgrangeSolstice
Dr. Clare Tuffy and Dr. Frank Prendergast who narrate the solstice so beautifully

'Look towards the light and keep hope in your heart' - What a message - thank you #NewgrangeSolstice
Many thanks as always to Clare Tuffy and Frank Prendergast for their excellent hosting of the broadcast #NewgrangeSolstice
#newgrangesolstice no luck this year, no lightbeam in the tomb chamber, but a wonderful sunrise in irland 🥰
Solstice greetings to all. Watching #Newgrangesolstice for a glimmer of the sun - rather murky dense mist here in the North Wessex badlands.
Lovely archive footage from the original excavation at Newgrange featuring archaeology students from the universities of Harvard, Uppsala and Cork. #NewgrangeSolstice
Inniu #GrianstadanGheimhridh - roth na bliana ag casadh i dtreo an tsolais arís.
