One day post-hatch (1 DPH), we can already see significant development in Spotted Gar larvae. More pigmentation, distinct eye, and the suction structure around the mouth (adheres to vegetation in wild, glass in lab)!

Here they GAR! The Spotted Gar eggs adhere to the artificial spawning substrate. Once removed, they’re incubated in different tanks. Many embryos from this spawn are being sent to @FishEvoDevoGeno!

Today we’re back in the Bayousphere Lab @NichollsState for Spotted Gar spawning! Post-injection, gars are placed in tank with artificial spawning substrate, aka pom poms! We should see activity in 24 hrs, embryos in 48. Stay tuned! #GarLab #NichollsBiology
