Yes, the “notorious reform school” shown in #NickelBoys was both real/not closed til 2011. I wondered if I could separate shock of school & objectively judge acting quality BUT that only means that #EthanHerisse #BrandonWilson delved deeply into their roles of sentenced students. [X post: 1/21/25]
Just finished this. It was a hard read, taking in all the cruelty and fear. It’s also a very sad story about a world that should have been confined to the past but instead is rearing its ugly head again, all over the world. That’s the most devastating part 😢

The first-person P.O.V. starts off powerful, but the purpose eventually gets lost as the gimmick switches between multiple perspectives killing the immersion. It had the opposite effect of what it was going for turning the movie into a slog.

Didn’t know what to feel about the first person prospective, but I eventually didn’t mind it. But man this was way too long!
I believe the movie drags half way through the movie and ultimately loses me and never got my attention again.
