May 21st 2025 4:45pm-7:30pm Adult Detention Center - 9320 Lee Ave, Manassas In response to the Manassas GOP’s call to reinstate the 287(g) program at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Jail, local Democratic leaders, immigrant rights advocates, and concerned residents will gather peacefully outside the Jail Board meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 6pm, to reject policies rooted in racial profiling, fear-mongering, and the criminalization of immigrant communities. We stand for a Prince William County and City of Manassas that welcomes all residents, regardless of immigration status. The 287(g) program has historically eroded trust between law enforcement and immigrant families, making communities less safe and more divided. The PWCDC Latino Caucus and community advocates firmly opposes any efforts to revive the 287(g) agreement, which was discontinued in 2020 due to widespread concerns about civil rights violations, discriminatory enforcement, and costly legal challenges. Reinstating it would represent a dangerous step backward and undermine the values of inclusion and due process. Attendees of the counter-protest are encouraged to bring signs, wear green as a symbol of unity, and submit public comments demanding humane, community-centered approaches to public safety.
