Stood together as advocates outside Queen’s Park — united in calling for safety through care, not control. From our schools to our streets, real safety means investing in people, not punishment. #CommunityCare #NoToBill33

TAKE ACTION FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
CALL MINISTER OF EDUCATION, PAUL CALANDRA
416-325-2600
CALL PREMIER FORD
416-325-1941
Suggested Script:
I'm calling today as a parent/caregiver of a child(ren) in Ontario Public Schools, to voice my support for the role of democratically elected trustees in our school system and my opposition to Bill 33.
I am unhappy with the Minister's threats to eliminate trustees who provide parents and caregivers with a voice in education.
I'm asking the minister to commit to funding for our public schools that keeps pace with inflation, and the costs of providing the excellent public education all children in this province deserve.
I'm calling to voice my opposition to Bill 33 because it weakens our school boards and mandates policing in schools. We do not need policing in schools; we need funding for more supports and smaller class sizes.
I'm asking the minister to fund our schools and withdraw Bill 33 and reinstate our democratically elected trustees.

WHAT IS BILL 33?
Removes Local Control from Local School Boards
Bill 33 would enable the Ministry of Education to remove local control and public voice from school boards and their elected trustees without a non-partisan, third-party investigation, based only on their opinion. This would remove all local control and transparency from policy, program, and budget decision-making.

WHAT IS BILL 33?
Bill 33 would mandate Policing in Schools instead of investing in Real Student Supports.
Province-wide, Special Education is underfunded by more than $580 million. Data from across North America shows that students with disabilities have significant negative impacts from school officer programs, and the 'safety' supports that are needed are social workers, child & youth workers, education support workers, and other professionals.

But former Liberal cabinet minister John Milloy said he's skeptical about whether the government will make the controversial move.
Calandra's efforts to take over some school boards with appointed supervisors have already generated significant anger and pushback, he said.
"I don't know if they have the stomach for it," said Milloy, who is now the director of the Centre for Public Ethics at Martin Luther University College.
"I think (the PCs) like to be popular more than other governments that actually go out and spend a little bit of political capital. So, they talk about a good game and then the minute that there's controversy, they back down."

Students & educators aren’t asking for police in schools—they’re asking for belonging, care & support from trusted adults. That’s how you build safety & success. #NoToBill33
