two books are open to illustrations. One shows a whale carcass on the ocean floor, starting the process of decay. The other shows five jack-o-lanterns starting to sink and collapse as they are rotting.

Decay isn't usually addresed in polite society, but it's essential to life. Both Pumpkin Seed's Secret and Life After Whale structure their entire books around decay. Great reads!
