It wasn’t just the sun and gorse that was out today.

The juvenile Iceland Gull at Waxham Norfolk was coooperative yesterday. #Birds #NorfolkBirds
Had an excellent day on the NE Norfolk coast today, watching seals and gulls. Good to see this brute of a 2Cy Glaucous Gull plus another "white winger" an Iceland Gull. Also saw a Caspian Gull which was camera shy! #Birds #NorfolkBirds
Day off, went to Norfolk.
Woodlark, Hawfinch and Brambling in the Brecks.
Firecrest (Norfolk ✔️) Scaup, LT Duck and the regular wildfowl and waders at Titchwell.
Even saw the Tawny Owl.

Spurred on by feeds for #norfolkmoths, #norfolkbirds I decided to experiment creating a feed for #cambsmoths - post with hashtags #cambsmoths #cambridgeshiremoths or #vc29moths should be included (except - I've never done this before, so... #teammoths #mothmatters)
See bsky.app/profile/did:...
Male Siskin, pale green, with streaks on flanks, pale cream underneath and black head feeding upside down in an Alder Tree.
Went out locally to check for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, no sight or sound, I suspect they are no more, but will make further visits. I see Siskins every day in my garden, but watching these little acrobats as they fed on Alder seeds is always a pleasure. #Birds #NorfolkBirds
A very interesting bird here…

Three weeks ago we saw this Great White Egret rise from the flood meadow at Bintree & found it later just up the road at Guist, on trees by the river. Today it was elegance all the way, back on the meadow.
First hints of spring aigrettes on the way too.

Black-bellied Dipper
Bintree Mill, near Guist

As the gloom descended & the drizzle got thicker & wetter we were chuffed to find the Bintree Black-bellied Dipper roosting under the mill bridge tonight. Checked the books ~ my 1st BBD since the monster TG04 bird in 2009.
Love it when a plan comes together 😊

Black-bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill this afternoon, February 6 2026. Not seen one in Norfolk for a fair while ~ just checked and I've not seen one since the amazing TG04 bird at Natural Surroundings almost 17 years to the day! Time flies...
Shopping in Fakenham was followed by a 5th drop-in to the mill at Bintree. Four soggy souls looked forlornly from the white bridge in the thick drizzle. We checked from bridge to bridge three times & then on our last look at the mill...
Black-bellied Dipper!

Who needs gaudy birds when you've got a Tarrock flying by...sensational patterns and only three colours required...
As well as the Little Gull & a small selection ultra dark (surely heinei...) Common Gulls, we also enjoyed some snazzy Kittiwakes close in along the surf, including this gorgeous youngster. That three-tone colour scheme is an absolute winner...

Adult Little Gull & Common Gull breezing past Cley Beach this morning. Absolutely love the effect from the phone zoom, like something I'd expect to see in a painting by @edkeeble.bsky.social or Darren Woodhead. Loving that Fea's underwings vibe...

We decided that Little Gulls are hard as nails today as we watched this lovely adult, with charcoal underwings showing to the max, breeze past us over the breaking waves this morning. Total mastery of the conditions, riding the surf tops with ease.

Another raw February morning, that east wind giving it large with some hefty gusts. The shroud of grey cloud hung over us all day but we saw birds! Water Pipit on the marsh + Little Gull & Kittiwakes along the surf line & a few islandicas too 🙂

Lovely opportunity to compare and contrast between Bewick's Swan and Whooper Swan out on Ludham airfield this afternoon...
@linnetincley.bsky.social
#norfolkbirds
Bewick's Swans (left) & the rather larger Whooper Swan (right) ~ it's well documented how Bewick's is becoming scarcer and scarcer in Norfolk, as more birds short-stop on the continent. A sad sign of the times...
Bewick's Swan at Ludham
Bewick's Swans at Ludham
After bumping in to three Bewick's Swans earlier in the day, Lynnette & I nipped into Ludham airfield to see the wild swan herd that favours the undisturbed grassy meadows. At least 50 Whoopers & 25 Bewick's counted, the Whoopers often very vocal.

This has to be the most magnificent argentatus Herring Gull I've ever seen...
...probably helped by showing v. well on the beach, but everything about it was so smart! Nice & dark, puffy Arctic tertial fan, great wing-tip pattern & those raspberry legs!

Probably my favourite image of today ~ one of at least four Purple Sandpipers we saw around the sea defences at Sea Palling at lunchtime. Such obliging birds and so much fun to watch. And they're beautifully understated too.

...and here's a striking, well advanced to summer (almost) adult Caspian Gull. A bit distant, marching around along the edge of the strand-line in the murk created by a surprising amount of sea-spray. Looked the bees-knees in flight, textbook patterns 👌
