After weeks of back-to-back deadlines and assorted Adult Responsibilities I am able to spend a cloudy Friday morning editing my own work, tidying the desk hole, and maybe even submitting a piece or two.
I will not, under any circumstances, faff away the day on the inter—

To my regulars and those planning on dropping by, I'm sorry to say that The Tiger Writes will not be streaming today. I did not sleep well, so I'm just going to rest.

draft opening lines of my current book project Lake: Nature and Culture Contents Page Dedication Introduction: ways of thinking about lakes Short definitions of lakes can be straightforward. Most dictionaries say something like: “A body of water surrounded by land.” But such simplicity and certainty are misleading. Lakes are hard to pin down, and live up to their reputation for having hidden depths. Their meaning in the literary language of landscape is ambiguous, their ecology and geography are complex, and the resources they provide are matched by the threats they pose. Consider Chalchiuhtlicue, the Aztec goddess of lakes. She symbolised the purity of the lake water used for irrigation, and she filled the canals with water for growing maize, but children were sacrificed to her each year by drowning in Lake Texcoco, to bring on the rainy season. The tears of the children were considered a good omen for the rains. Lakes, and their gods, are not straightforward.
My wife keeps telling me she doesn't think I'll ever finish my current book-writing project. I used to think it was reverse psychology on her part to help me get moving, but she's said it so often now that I think she really believes it. #amwriting #notwriting #WriterSky #Writing #writingcommunity

Big day of writing. Oh, that's right, it wasn't! It was a big day of laying brick paving and mocking up retaining wall blocks. 🥵 #writers #notwriting #diy #chores

Good Morning!
So if it's not writers' block and it's not a loss of confidence and it's not a lack of inspiration or ideas.............what is this reluctance to get going on a new project or revamp an old one....???? 😕

My editor and I love doing this thing where we randomly remember Kidz Bop is a thing and torture ourselves by linking the songs in chat. #notwriting #cursed
I'm trying to write something new, but literally all I have is a 'feeling' 🙄 It absorbs me while I'm working out or watching TV, and evaporates when I have a pen in my hand #Writing #NotWriting
Social media? No.

Another day of procrastination: was all set up only to discover the printer needs ink. The spouse was out of hot sauce. The car needs gas. Training must be done. Library book sale! Are the fish hungry? Squirrels! #research #writing #notwriting

Still feeling the crunch at work. Every time I think I have a little breathing room, something else pops up. At least my kitties are silly. #writer #notwriting #cat

Heartbroken 💔
The library was closed today, so no writing for me. Instead, I got some other much needed shopping done, like buying a bunch of socks for work 🧦

Trying to write today but still suffering from a bad back caused by too much strimming last week. Doing some great stretching exercises twice a day (thanks @askdoctorjo.com !) but sitting down for more than 10 mins hurts. Tried writing standing up but it's not working. I'm feeling sad... #NotWriting

I'm not a fan of my days being so busy.
There's some fun stuff going on, some dumb stuff going on, and very little time for writing.
I do hope the end of summer decides to lay off me for a hot minute!

Took a day from work after running a fever all day yesterday. Still sleepy. Found this pic on Pinterest by artist #摸鱼斋 (Moyu Zhai). Pretty close to how I imagine Youling Bai in my new #WIP The Prince's Prized Possession.

Writers often plant obstacles to their success.
They talk a lot about why they aren't writing. Usually these obstacles are self-generated and self-powered by the writer. Confronting obstacles is hard. We want to justify why we cannot do something.
