The Notts LGBT+ Network is deeply troubled and disappointed to hear the Supreme Court ruling today. This ruling creates divisive and exclusionary precedence for an identity that defines who many of our community are in every minute of their lives and every shred of their being. Whilst this ruling is limited only to the legal definitions in the Equalities Act, a law which also provides protection to the Trans community we know that this ruling will be used by transphobic elements of society to further marginalise, harass and diminish our trans siblings. The Notts LGBT+ Network is clear that Trans Women are Women, Trans Men are Men and Trans Rights are Human Rights! Our Trans siblings deserve an equal right to a rich and fulfilling life in their authentic identity without invasion of privacy, liberty and social inclusion as every other human being. We remind our community that you are all, for now, still protected by law against discrimination by the Equalities Act and any harassment, violence or other crime persecuted against you because of your identity is still covered under existing hate crime and we're confident Notts Police will support you on 101 or 999 for emergencies. Finally, we know this is a truly difficult time for our community as the very definition of our being continues to be eroded by those that wish to discriminate against us.
