Remember the #OCTRON preprint we published a couple of months ago? The pipeline just got a lot more powerful πͺπ
#OCTRON just got even better!
Annotate dozens of animals in hundreds of frames in minutes and/or skip masks for super fast predictions.
The closest thing to magic I've ever seen for tracking animal behaviour πͺ
#OCTRON summary π
You can use #OCTRON to track cells too!
It took 10 min to annotate multiple cells in 146 frames, 1.5 hrs to train a model with a GPU, and 10 sec to make these predictions. It doesn't get much easier than thatβ‘οΈ
Have you tried #OCTRON yet?
Here's a speedy run-through of the pipeline, showing how you go from annotating animals, to training a model, and visualising predictions in new videos. Everything you need to track your favourite species! πͺ
My first ever paper as a xmas present! π
Check out this amazing pipeline created by @octoscience.bsky.social to track squishy animals π
Very happy I could contribute to this, #OCTRON works great on my gossamer worms!

A translucent tomopteris annelid decorated with five big red baubles, many small yellow string lights and a big yellow star at the tip of its tail, all on a black background. Three wrapped gifts are in the bottom right corner and on the left red text reads "Merry Christmas from the Marine Neuroscience Laboratory"
A Christmas present from us and the rest of the #OCTRON team to you: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... π
What a nice xmas present! Check this one out if you are into animal behavioral tracking! #OCTRON works really well on animals without a backbone, like π. Happy we could contribute to this story led by @octoscience.bsky.social
π Our first paper! π
@octoscience.bsky.social has created a complete pipeline that makes tracking weird and wonderful animals a breeze, and we've had a blast testing it on our wriggly worms. Check out this thread to see it in action π
#OCTRON
Do you love quantifying animal behavior as much as we do? We have just the tool for you! Presenting #OCTRON - a pipeline that helps you create rich annotation data and enables training of custom segmentation models. Have a look, particularly if you work with non-model / invertebrate organisms!
