What is it? March Minimix Madness is a low-stakes, low-key event that will take place from March 3rd - March 9th, 2025. Yeah, but… what is it? The March Minimix Madness is a more ‘toned down’ version of the usual Our Flag Means Death Remix. Rather than remixing entire works, you’re encouraged to ‘mini’mix just one small element of another work to create something of your own. For example, you could minimix based on the title of a work. You could change just one element of the summary. You could switch it from a Modern AU to a Canon Compliant one. There’s also no obligation to offer up your works to be minimixed, or to minimix anyone else’s. If you’d prefer, you can create a minimix based on the title or summary of one of our beloved episodes of Our Flag Means Death.
Take, for example, the fic above (included is a screenshot of the title, summary and tags of 'breathing the same air'). The title is ‘breathing the same air’. But what if you just changed that first word? What if the title was ‘poisoning the same air’? Suddenly, it’d be a very different story. Similarly, you could change just one element of the summary. You could turn it on its head completely and switch it around. ‘A raid-gone-wrong leads to a near-death experience for Ed’ would be a different story entirely. Or what if you minimixed an episode like the one above? The title could be changed to change the entire thing on its head – for example, ‘The Curse of the Seafaring Life’ could become ‘The Curse of the Innfaring Life’. Or maybe another character has the cursed jacket…?
Eligibility Criteria Unlike the Our Flag Means Death Remix, there’s no criteria you have to meet to sign-up. You don’t even need to sign up to post a minimix! If you submit your works to be minimixed, please copy and paste the form and fill it in properly to ensure your work is used how you’d like it to be. Are there rules? There are still rules to ensure everyone has a safe, fun, and friendly time. Don't be a twat! You must be respectful of whoever you are minimixing, and whoever minimixes your work. This isn't about having massive aggression and making out like the original writer/artist did something wrong. You're reimagining their work, not ripping it apart. A Stede-positive fic shouldn't become a Stede-bashing bonanza. It's about enjoying a fic so much, you can't help but wonder: what if...? And if you don't like what your minimixer does? That's valid, but don't be an ass about it! No minimum word count. And no restrictions on the medium (unless specified by the prompter). Respect your prompter's preferences and the choices a minimixer makes. That means, if they've specified safe works (works they do not want to be minimixed under any circumstances), you cannot minimix them. No exceptions. The same goes with regard to their rating and warning preferences. Likewise, if you don't provide any safe works or preferences, respect the fact your work may be minimixed in any way a minimixer sees fit. Link to one of the works offered as a prompt, or to an episode of the show. As per the examples in the FAQ, there has to be some connection to another work or an episode of the show. It might only be very slight, but that’s the whole point of minimixing! All works must be complete by the time creators are revealed. Exceptions may be made.
