A great blue heron struts away, out of one tide pool and into another in the early morning light. To me it looks like it’s leaving the scene after stealing a fish, and it’s trying to be all nonchalant. Lava rocks covered in various types of seaweed create a rich environment of tide pools full of life at Seal Rock on the central Oregon Coast. I think this individual must live here because we always see a great blue heron in this same area when we come.

This is a beach scene. White, and blueish-gray clouds streak from left to right across a bright blue sky. The Pacific Ocean rolls in from the left, and a pool of bluish green sea water stranded at low tide ripples across the bottom with a strip of sand rolling from the right. Dark green forested, black, rocky headlands meet the white-capped waves in the distance on the horizon. The wind was whipping hard and this was not a warm day on the Oregon Coast. I kinda love it that way, though- Needing a jacket in July. Classic.

A light blue, black and orange variegated meadowhawk dragonfly we rescued from the waves of the Pacific Ocean. My kid is cradling it in his hand. Its wings were stuck together and it was covered in sand.
We walked the injured dragonfly back to our hotel and very gently washed it off and helped it dry out and relax and recover in safety.
After about 90 minutes of first aid and rest while clutching my kid’s finger, this adorable variegated meadowhawk dragonfly took off again into the sky. Super happy day.
