A large five colour 1:10000 orienteering map of the north side of Eskdale, Cumberland. Mostly open and a pale yellow is used for this. There are extensive marshes and I had to pull myself out of one. A M19 course is marked up, finishing in a garden at the west end of the map. A very steep slope runs the length of the southern edge with a gently sloping marshy plateau above,

A 1:15000 scribed orienteering map of the forest behind Pluscarden Abbey, Morayshire. The forest is runnable with a lot of clear felled coupes. The clear fell symbol used is a yellow and white diagonal striping screen which was used a fair bit at this time. A small sheet and a very attractive map. M19 - M35 course overprint.

East Monaughty 1980. Clearfelling soon took this forest off the fixture list. I would have spent a lot of time on an EUOC bus to get there. Premarked maps were a well loved luxury at this time.

An extract - eastern half of a five colour 1:15000 orienteering map of a steep ridge and nearby limestone woodland which has been quarried and mined. Surrounding farmland is also shown giving an overall yellow appearance but the competition area was entirely forest. Dave Gittus, Wrekin Orienteers.

A very fine scribed map by Harveys Map Services, then of Dunblane. A rather green area with a dual carriageway running through it. Then it was possible to cross the road via a disused railway but a few years later a motorway was built with no crossings. 1:15,000 five colour.

Runnable Sitka spruce plantation. Flat with little in the way of ground vegetation or brashings.
