Often, as is the case for this one on Keppochhill Road in Glasgow, the survivors have a pub on their ground floor and this was what saved it as it was deemed too expensive to buy out the licence for such premises.

I presume it dates from the time in the 1930s and 40s when it was home to pub called the Shandon Bells. This was one of three Glasgow bars owned by the publican Lawrence Brady, all of which bore this same name!

In an ironic twist of fate, the Dowanhill Church in Hyndland, whose congregation were key players in the fight to keep Hyndland dry, is now home to the Cottiers Bar.
