UK Man Admits Encouraging Vulnerable American to Commit Suicide Over Video Call A 21-year-old man from Morley, West Yorkshire, Dylan Phelan, has admitted to encouraging a vulnerable American man, Travis Dyer of Louisiana, to take his own life during a video call on October 30, 2024. Phelan, along with two others in the United States, urged Dyer to use a shotgun to commit suicide. Dyer, who had a history of trauma including the loss of his mother and younger sister in a car accident ten years prior, had been subjected to ongoing encouragement to self-harm from online groups on Discord. Phelan voluntarily went to the police in Leeds in March 2025, acknowledging his involvement and his attraction to 'darker' online communities.
