That was a fascinating read, thank you. I don't think I will watch #Oshin any time soon. The asadora I'm currently watching followed a similar timeline and the very realistically grim war years and reconstruction era eps seemed to go on forever. Once is likely to have been enough for this wimp

Oshin, 2013 film

I struggled to find serviceable YouTube episodes of the original TV series - but I did very much like the 2013 film remake of #Oshin

Oshin - Wikipedia

#Oshin was HUGE in its time. Massively popular all over Asia and hugely influential.

An asadora, impressive! I've only watched one, and am currently watching another. I might add #Oshin to next year's PTW, thanks!
I think that's a great thing about being um, not young. Owning BW movies on vcd, having watched some #kDrama at 360p, I too care more about story than style

I’m currently rewatching #Oshin, a beloved asadora from the early 80s. Its production values are terrible by our current standards, but the storytelling is great. I would hate to miss out on something like that because someone else rated it poorly just for being an older drama.

A slightly low-angle, medium shot captures a young woman with dark hair pulled back, wearing a dark, patterned kimono with a red and white underlayer and a striped obi. Her hands are clasped gently at her waist. Snow appears to be falling around her, creating a soft, blurred background. Japanese text is visible in the upper left and right corners of the image. The overall tone is serene and slightly melancholic.

A 2013 movie poster features a close-up of two individuals, presumably a mother and child, embraced in a snowy outdoor setting. The older individual, a woman with dark hair styled in a traditional bun, gently holds the younger child, who has short hair and rosy cheeks, close to her. Both are wearing traditional Japanese clothing, possibly kimonos, in dark, muted tones with subtle patterns. Snowflakes are visible throughout the image, suggesting a cold environment. Japanese text is prominently displayed on the left side of the poster in large, stylized characters, with additional smaller text and images of other characters appearing at the bottom. The overall mood is tender and perhaps a bit melancholic, given the snowy backdrop.

#kdramachallenge: An Absolute Classic is the story that shaped my childhood and my highly biased preference on strong female leads.

Not a #kdrama but either #Oshin the original TV series, or the remake 2013 film, both are narrative greatness in their own way. 🌸❄️

I should really scour the internet if I can find this series again, #Oshin is such a classic!

It really was, watching them on my grandma's lap was a core memory. And yeah, 297 episodes but each episode was like 15 minutes long, so it was not that bad.

#Oshin definitely set my preference for strong, independent FL for my dramas early though.

#Oshin looks like great drama to have watched with your grandmother. From what I’ve read, it follows the life of a woman from the Meiji era right up to modern times (in the 1980s), doing so over 297 episodes. That’s quite an introduction to drama!
