Would love plant recommendations (Portland suburbs) for the "dead zone" in my yard: lots of shade, and lots of pine needles around a tall pine tree (taller than my 2 story house). EVERYTHING DIES THERE. Do I rake up the needles? Add more good garden soil around the tree? Ideas?
PNW #backyardhabitat folks:
Are we putting out mason bee cocoons now?
Last year I discovered they were laying eggs in our vinyl window trim and got them a little house but lost of some of them.

There are many #PNWNativeGardening folks on Bluesky. I think there's a Starter Pack with that name or something similar. Here's a link to the state's Habitat at Home program: wdfw.wa.gov/species-habi...
We've been #naturescaping for a few years in the Portland area and wrote up a brief piece about our #rewilding experience. We hoped to inspire others to begin their own gardening projects.

Hiya #PNWNativeGardening folks! Check out Pandra’s pinned post (say that 3x fast!) at top of the Native Plants feed. It’s a growing list of US Native Plant (only) Nurseries. We’ve curated a list for PNW (WA & OR currently) plus all the Conservation District plant sale links that are preordering now!
My first attempt at growing native plants from seed in pots. Taking any and all advice. #pnwnativegardening
Our resident Anna's hummingbirds seem a bit more active lately so I put out some nesting materials for them (fur from my dogs' brushes which they really like). They have a very early nesting season so I'll be checking on the fur supply from time to time. #PNWNativeGardening
When chatting up our amazing native plant landscaper, I must remember they’re here being paid by the hour 😆 #pnwnativegardening #backyardhabitat

Multiple green leaved fern growing on a mossy log sitting on brown leaf-littered ground. Larger green sword fern fronds with some brown fronds are beside the log.
Licorice fern, Polypodium glycyrrhiza, growing on a log. They love the rain and go dormant in the summer unless well-watered in the shade. The rhizomes supposedly taste like licorice. #nativeplants #pnwnativegardening 🌱
I'm so happy to see the #pnwnativegardening gang reforming here from FB! Here on Bluesky I manage the firehose using lists that I maintain (manually). If you want to use my feed for this group you can follow it here: bsky.app/profile/did:... and pin it.
I will try to add new folks as they arrive.

A late gift to add to the collection. Looking at it for both unwanted plant maintenance and additional info on natives. 🌱

#PNWNativeGardening (Question about California, not PNW): Has anyone found information about the impact of non-native or invasive plant species on the current 2025 wildfires in and around LA?
Hello #pnwnativegardening people! Looking forward to finding everyone over here. Gardening and slowly eradicating my lawn in Bethany.
Not sure. Right now I’m following everyone who uses this hashtag or who is in one of these comment threads. #PNWNativeGardening

Welcome to Bluesky! Since we don’t have our own feed, you can use this starter pack to find other PNW folks. Comment if you’d like to be added! 🌱
Glad to find #PNWNativeGardening friends here. Looking forward to spring. Red flowering current.
Thanks so much for starting this up. I was sad to be leaving the FB group #PNWNativeGardening
