And look! This site on Chapman Ave and Lemon St was once the #PacificElectric depot here in #OrangeCA!
#OC
There's a local street gang in Los Angeles that is named after the comic strip. The gang evolved from a clique of friends formed around 100 years ago when they nicknamed their neighborhood "Toonerville" because the #PacificElectric trolley that ran there at the time reminded them of the comic.
Love making my own price reminders for being behind the register.

Some nice photos of nice trolleys on my layout, putting in some cardboard sheet to raise the buildings to railhead level (or ties level for now).

It was a nice walk though, the historic #PacificElectric El Prado Bridge looks so sweet lit up at night!
#Torrance #SouthBay
This place is soooooo awesome, it's like a #PacificElectric museum inside! And the beers were great too! If The Militant EVER does a face-reveal meet-up event, it would no doubt be right here!
#Torrance #SouthBay
Just a half-mile walk away is Historic Old #Torrance, where The Militant is enjoying a pint at Red Car Brewery, located in a building that once housed Torrance's #PacificElectric depot!!!

π Spent some time at #TrainFestival2025 admiring the model train exhibits. One of the #modeltrain engineers explained how some of these miniature versions of Los Angeles public #transit (past & present) were created with 3D printing. #PacificElectric
The Militant has been long aware of this.
Bet you didn't know that some elements of the #PacificElectric Railway still remain today:

"The crowds that day [at #VeniceBeach] were especially large and the trains back to the city filled beyond capacity, but the mood was festive. The railway had added 'special' or extra cars to accommodate the homeward bound patrons." #PacificElectric

July 13, 1913: Fifteen people were killed & about 200 injured when a #PacificElectric streetcar on the Venice Short Line slammed into another on the same track, near present-day intersection of Pico Blvd & West Blvd. @lametrolibrary.bsky.social: metroprimaryresources.info/100-years-ag...
LA Times:
The Militant will miss Cole's not for their sandwiches, but for their link to the #PacificElectric railway. Opened in 1908 in the PE's own 6th & Main depot/HQ, it was originally known as "Cole's P.E. Buffet" catering to PE commuters riding in and out of the station.
#DTLA
Though other electric railways predated the #PacificElectric, such as the Los Angeles Pacific Railroad & the Pasadena & Pacific Railway, the PE acquired them through mergers later on (all of the old rail transit systems were run by private companies, which was common back then).
Today is the #4thofJuly, the day where we celebrate the birth of...The #PacificElectric Railway!
The PE's first interurban rail line, the Long Beach Line, began service #OTD in 1902 and lasted until April 1961. Most of it was rebuilt in 1990, known today as the Metro (A) Line.
A t-shirt print design that features three pieces of preserved rolling stock at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, California. Pacific Electric steeplecab No. 1624 is portrayed hustling a freight train consisting of an Arrowhead Water tank car, a Pacific Electric boxcar, and a Pacific Electric "flat-top" caboose at the end. The mountains in the background at, left to right: Mt Wilson in Pasadena, Mt Baldy in San Bernardino, and Mt Roubidoux in Riverside.
Finally finished another art thingy!
This time, it's a prospective t-shirt design for the railway museum I volunteer at. If all goes well, you too can probably wear it! (and if not, I can edit it and sell it on redbubble).

weedgrown tracks on the deck of the bridge
the row of arches under the bridge
Spent some time in #Torrance today. This bridge is a local landmark--#PacificElectric / #RedCar lines used to go both over and under it. The tracks underneath are still active, the ones on top are no longer connected to anything.

Just up the street is the restored #Bellflower #PacificElectric depot, waiting for the Metro Southeast Gateway Line to get goin' right in front of it.
This #PacificElectric e-locomotive no. 1544 was built in 1902. It never hauled passengers but it helped clean up and rebuild SF after their 1906 earthquake. It also helped build the old 1-mile PE subway tunnel under #DTLA 100 years ago!

Felt like dropping by Travel Town Museum in #GriffithPark just because. They now have QR code placards that give you historical info about each loco/railcar on display, like their #PacificElectric Red Car no. 1543: traveltown.org/visit/wst/ws...

It's an electronic sound, suppose it can. A steam train whistle sounds ridiculous (and slightly ominous) in the subway. They should use the same #PacificElectric trombone whistle sound the Breda A650 cars have!

I finally made a redone version of my Pacific Electric "Blimp" MOC! I've been meaning to redo them for so long & I apologize for not doing this sooner.
