My favorite fact I learned at the #Yale #PeabodyMuseum: In ancient #Mesopotamia they would place #Cuneiform tablets in clay envelopes. These had to be broken open to read the letter inside, thus preventing anyone from reading someone else’s private correspondence without their knowledge.
From 2018-2019 I worked as a research assistant at the #Yale conservation lab photographing, cataloguing and researching objects from their #history of #science and #technology. It was exciting to see some of these items on display at the #PeabodyMuseum

The #archelon was a giant sea turtle from the #cretaceous. It has long been a favorite of mine at the #peabodymuseum and this remounting brings it to life with a #mosasaur in pursuit. The archelon is missing part of its rear flipper, apparently bitten off, thus inspiring the dramatic scene. #paleo
My favorite #dinosaur deinonychus, seen here in a #comeatmebro! stance. This species helped paleontologists discover the link between dinosaurs and birds. It had a distinctive sickle-shaped claw and was an inspiration for the #velociraptors in #JurassicPark. #fossil #peabodymuseum #paleontology
Poposaurus may look like a #dinosaur but it’s actually a crocodilian. The display doesn’t say if it was semi-aquatic or not.

#Apatosaurus at the #peabodymuseum. Originally this skeleton was mounted with its tail dragging on the ground like a lizard’s. We now know that was not the case as footprints show no drag-marks. These display has been rebuilt accordingly.
