There was lichen, looking revived by the damp air, cobwebs heavy and bowed but not breaking, reedheads leaning, limp and saturated, and fungi, deep in the tangle of decaying undergrowth.

Old tree trunk, bark with deep fissures and a moss and lichen covering. It’s a gloomy, damp day, with fine drizzle covering the tangle of undergrowth at the base of the tree.

Yesterday was rather dank, with a fine drizzle and no wind to move it along. A short walk on Pevensey Levels was almost birdless - between the two of us we saw three birds - so it was a day for looking down and seeing what lay at our feet.
