A highly detailed underwater macro photograph captures a tiny, transparent amphipod from the genus Phronima, perched on soft coral. The amphipod has prominent red and black eyespots, giving it a striking appearance against its otherwise see-through body. Its delicate legs and antennae extend forward as it clings to the coral. While I see a #phronima clinging to a salps quite frequently in the nighttime open #ocean environment, this one was unique. They typically capture a much smaller #salp of a different species - perhaps 2x the size of her body.
