Amphipod against a black background. The main colour is blue with red margins on each of the tergites. The eyes and antennae are reddish as well. The last two pairs of pereopods extend backwards and have white tips. Overall, the body is smooth and rounded.

It's the fourteenth day of #Crustmas and I bring you another amphipod. I really like its slight blue and red colouration. :D
It is probably Apohyale perieri, but I'm not quite sure.

#Crustmas day 3! 🦐
Look at the claw on this amphipod!

I think it is Gammarella fucicola, but I‘m not quite sure. It’s the only one I found with modified gnathopods like this. Found in a rocky shore habitat in Galicia, Spain.

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen! Recently, we released an article on the marvellous career of Jerry Laurens Barnard, a well known marine biologist, carcinologist, amphipod taxonomist, & amphipod biologist! He is particularly well known for his work with amphipods in the Sea of Cortez, also known as the Gulf of California. His work has heavily contributed to the understanding of crustaceans, & the understanding of marine biodiversity. In this article, we discuss his formative years & education, his illustrious career & personal life, & his astounding achievements, awards, & accomplishments. We highly recommend this article to any adorer of crustaceans, & enjoyer of the sea.

A type of crustacean, approximatly 5 mm in length.
Probably Jassa slatteryi, a cosmopolitan species in the sea.

It looks like a shrimp, with brown markings on its body, legs and antennae.

Its head has two pairs of antennae, one of which is noticeably large.

The thorax is segmented, and like a shrimp, each segment has legs, but this animal has two pairs of large and small grasping appendages for capturing food.

The abdomen also resembles that of shrimp, but doesn't have tail fan.

In Japan, Janualy 2017.

A type of skeleton shrimp. (Caprella penantis ?)

It has slender, segmented body with orange-red markings.
The first segment is head and the rest segments are thorax. The last thorax segment is followed by abdominal segment that is very small and almost inviisible.

The head has 2 pairs of prominent antennae, small eyes, and a pair of smaller grasping appendages resembling a mantis' foreleg.
Actually, the head is fused to the first thorax segment, so the next part with the bigger grasping appendages is the second thorax segment.

Each of the third and fourth segments have a pair of paddle-shaped appendages. They are gills.

The fifth to seventh segments have flexible appendages with claw-shaped tips. They help to cling to seaweed.

A highly detailed underwater macro photograph captures a tiny, transparent amphipod from the genus Phronima, perched on soft coral. The amphipod has prominent red and black eyespots, giving it a striking appearance against its otherwise see-through body. Its delicate legs and antennae extend forward as it clings to the coral. The background is a sea of soft pink and orange coral polyps, resembling padded flowers or underwater cushions, creating a dreamlike and colorful scene
