The biggest story out of yesterday's #PimaSupes meeting is a looming confrontation between Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the Democratic-controlled Pima County Board of Supervisors.
Given the nature of the today's meeting, I'll be wrapping up my coverage of the #PimaSupes meeting.
If you are enjoying my live posting from local government meetings, I hope you will consider subscribing to the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social.
Back of the napkin math, Nanos could face being fired by the board on April 21 - provided the elected sheriff doesn't show up to the yet-to-be-scheduled #PimaSupes meeting.
Chair Jennifer Allen motions to have outside counsel bring back reports related to Nanos (as discussed in Executive Session) before the Board on April 7.
This is the first domino that could lead to the #PimaSupes remove Nanos from office - but this could be a long, involved process.
Still waiting for the #PimaSupes to come out of their executive session.
The #PimaSupes have gone into executive session. I'll start a new thread when they come back.
I fully expect Sheriff Nanos to be the first item they will discuss when they get back.
Thanks to everyone for reading by posts!
The #PimaSupes vote 5 to 0 to start the process of striping Chavez's name from county properties.
The #PimaSupes votes to instruct County Administrator Jan Lesher to draft a plan to rename the floating César Chávez Holiday as well as identify all County assets (signage, public art, etc.) that bear Mr. Chávez's name to be changed to honor someone else.
The #PimaSupes are being asked to create new position classifications for Consolidated Court, which is related to an article we wrote about a few weeks ago.

This wraps up Call to the Public.
#PimaSupes
Former Pima County Sheriff candidate, Kevin Kubitskey, tells the #PimaSupes his public records requests with PCSD were never filled last year, said staff asked him whether he was personally supporting Nanos' opponent.
Kubitskey was accused of sexual abuse by his daughter during the 2020 campaign.
Several speakers are asking the #PimaSupes to fund a grant-funded program (the grant expired) that works with law enforcement to make sure that people who have been served with orders of protection that they surrender the firearms.
This is an active program in the City of Tucson, not the county.
Supervisor Steve Christy has joined the #PimaSupes meeting virtually.
Supervisor Matt Heinz has joined the #PimaSupes meeting.
While the #PimaSupes has a quorum, Supervisors Heinz and Christy are running a few minutes late.

Good morning, #Tucson.
I'll be posting live from today's #PimaSupes meeting in a few minutes.
There is a BIG difference between today's #PimaSupes Call to the Public and #TucsonCouncil's Call to the Public.
People were angry and partisan this morning with sharp jabs at the Supervisors (and members of the crowd) while tonight people are move civil.
#PimaSupes took a first step toward restricting ICE activity in Pima County, passing a resolution yesterday that put limits on raids on county property and a mask ban for law enforcement. Supporters call it a message to federal agents; GOP Supervisor Christy calls it “toothless.”
A special note for fans of my #PimaSupes live-blogging.
I will be using the other bird-platform today at their meeting, just as an exercise of trying something new.
I'm easy to find, same name, same cartoon headshot.

I am going to wrap up my coverage of the #PimaSupes meeting, as I have some deadlines to meet.
I'll be back with the coverage of the #TucsonCouncil this afternoon.
A deputy county attorney tells the #PimaSupes that there MAY be some legal authority for the county to get involved, specifically mentioning public nuisance laws.
#PimaSupes vote 4 to 1 to move forward with banning ICE and DHS from operating on county-owned land.
Again, a FINAL vote on the ordinance - which has not been written - won't be adopted until early March.
This wraps up call to the public.
The #PimaSupes are re-ordering the agenda, starting with item #21, with #22 and #23 to be heard next.
An immigrant tells he came to the US fifty years ago because he believed that the US was the land of the free, asks the #PimaSupes to vote against the data center resolution.
Holding one of her young child, a young mother and a member of PRICE, tells the #PimaSupes that she questions why deportation is the norm, says we treated immigrants a century ago differently.
Isabel Garcia tells the #PimaSupes that "the only the community can save for the community" and calls out Governor Katie Hobbs for selling to the former prison to MTC.
Asks the political body to be on the "right side of history."
We still have 7 more speakers. #PimaSupes vote to take the extra time - it has been an hour - to hear from those speakers.
Dave Smith, in a long rant against the #PimaSupes, said his neighborhood "isn't concerned what ICE and Board Patrol is doing."
He cites specific polling about whether undocumented people should be deported, but leaves out that most polling shows most Americans don't support recent ICE actions.
