Plot twist I didn't see coming: My villain has a point. My heroine is reconsidering. My hero is confused. I'm rewriting Act 3. This is fine. Everything is fine. #AmWriting #PlotProblems

The villain is more interesting than the hero. This is a problem. Or is it? Asking for a friend. (The friend is me. I'm in too deep.) #WritingLife #PlotProblems #AmWriting

The duke thinks he's in a romance novel. The heroine knows she's in a mystery. I'm letting them figure it out together. This is fine. #PlotProblems #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

Writing partnership dynamics: He thinks he's protecting her. She's actually protecting him. Neither will admit it. This is fine. Everything is fine. #PlotProblems #HistRom

A comic titled “FOCUS” shows a stick figure working intently at a computer, mentally mapping out a flowchart. In the first two panels, they’re making steady progress. In the third panel, someone offscreen interrupts with, “HEY! DO YOU HAVE 1 SEC?” The figure’s thought process is shown breaking apart. The fourth panel shows a “POOF” cloud and the word “NEVERMIND” from the interrupter, while the figure looks annoyed. The final panel depicts the stick figure floating in a chaotic black void with their desk, chair, and cat scattered around, captioned “WHAT WAS I DOING?” The comic is signed “monkeyuser.com.”

Spreadsheet Says No During the third revision of my novel, a simple plot matrix in Excel exposed a major timeline error: my protagonist was visibly pregnant during scenes that made it biologically impossible. Here’s h…

Discovered a major plot hole in draft 4—turns out, my protagonist was somehow 8 months pregnant and sprinting through high-stakes scenes.

Turning your story around mid-draft can feel like doing a 9-point turn on the edge of a cliff—with emotional baggage in the trunk You’re not lost—you’re just editing on hard mode. And you can make it to the other side. 💪📖

After you have written for a long time you will recognize when you need to step away from a plot issue in a big novel. A few days or weeks or longer may be required for your big back brain to navigate plot solution options. That's part of writing a novel.

When you are story writing your brain is working in the background solving for plot. Sometimes this background plotting is fast but often it takes time. Create gaps where the front of your brain is doing something else and not pressuring the plotting brain.

I wrote about 220 words yesterday and I'm trying to work more on the very tentative plot of The Stolen Amulet. I have all these little pieces and I'm trying to puzzle them together into a coherent novella XD. #iamwriting #queerauthor #queerwriting #TheStolenAmulet #plotproblems #writerslife
