WhAt WoUlD pErSuAdE yOu To LeT lOoSe YoUr ClAsp?" Pink flashes again, this time freeing an entire step And from underneath, a Machine repeats without pep "You are a fallen Smith, a missing Link from your Chain You will now be judged, whether you are able or lame" A face made up of a visor and puppet like hinges Begin to shudder and shuffle in starkly Pink flinches

"Hold still, fallen Smith, or you will be thrown away Regardless of our decisions, there will be no delay" Radiant rays rate our Smith's quality and potential Each part it burns on his body is consequential "AaHhHhH iT hUrTs! It BuRnS! pLeAsE sToP! pLeAsE..." The Machine doesn't listen to our Smith's crying pleas It continues its job, disregarding all pain "Looks like you are worth some extra strain."

Page 138 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts Void Termina, the Destroyer of Worlds, newly revived by the sacrifice of Hyness and the forced sacrifices of the Mage Sisters at Hyness' hand. These more mech-like roughs here are a good reminder of how much influence that genre has on largely framed beings. The size of Void Termina dwarfs Kirby and friends, to the point of genuine concern that they will even make it out alive Void Termina is the final boss of Kirby Star Allies. Known as the Destroyer of Worlds, he is a being made of pure chaos conjured from the Jamba Heart by Hyness in order to destroy the galaxy, after having been initially sealed within it by four ancient heroes of yore. Having been worshiped as a god by Hyness and his followers, Void Termina is an immensely powerful primal cosmic being who seems only interested in destroying everything he comes across. Void Termina initially appears as a gigantic gorilla-like humanoid, but is capable of changing his form as the battle goes on, with his last form greatly resembling both Kirby and Dark Matter. Page 139 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts Void Termina and the challenge of achieving the proper front facing look to exude the cosmic and primal aura that it is clearly meant to express. The simple, dot eyes pierce, and the more I look at it, the more I imagine them getting smaller and smaller, and eventually burrowing into my soul. The bottom right depicts the final battles location, and I have always adored just how beautiful the reflection of the sky above is, it almost distracts me when fighting Void Termina as it entrances me fully. Void Termina's voice effects were created by Yuuta Ogasawara, HAL Laboratory's new composer as of the development of Kirby Star Allies. Void Termina's voices in Phase 1 and 3 were performed by Shinya Kumazaki. According to him, the screams reflect the entirety of his energy from the final moments of the game's development. Void Termina's voice in Phase 4 (in addition to Void Soul and Void) was sampled from the sentence "イロハニホヘト、カービィ〜" (Irohanihoeto, Kirby) spoken by Hirokazu Ando, Yuuta Ogasawara, Yumi Todo (director of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe) and Shinya Kumazaki together. イロハニホヘト is the first line of the Iroha poem. Page 134 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts rough sketches and the final Veiled model of Hyness, the Officiant of Doom, who leads the cult that intends on reviving Void Termina, the Destroyer of Worlds, and hails from the fortress world of Jambandra. This poem's ending references the 3rd anniversary art for Star Allies, in which the Mage Sisters and Hyness all celebrate with Kirby on a shore together, that they can live again, free from religious devotion, free from Termina, and free from the pain they brought on each other. We are leading into the final boss of Star Allies in the next poem, and I wanted to do this small sub series to appreciate the Kirby game that helped me love the series again, through connecting and bonding over it with @nanrait.bsky.social 💖 Hyness is a venerable wizard who conceals himself in a white robe with long trailing sleeves and a veil that covers his face, such that only his beady yellow eyes can be seen. While his shape and motions would suggest he has limbs, these are never seen from under the robe, which makes it entirely possible that he does not have any. Hyness leads a host of subjects, the most prominent of which are The Three Mage-Sisters: Francisca, Flamberge, and Zan Partizanne. When his hood is removed, he is revealed to have a blue face, blue and yellow striped ears, and eyes that move independently of each other like those of a chameleon's. Aside from the huge nose, Hyness's face (particularly his ears) has an uncanny resemblance to the shape of Magolor's head. [Wikirby.com]

Page 135 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts Hyness and how his face came to be, the form he takes once he reveals his true visage, after taking off his veil. It is implied in the separate The Ultimate Choice - Soul Melter EX Special Pages for Francisca, Flamberge, and Zan Partizanne that Hyness saved their lives from doom. Since then, they look up to him with admiration and seek his guidance, a loyalty that is ultimately exploited by the crazed officiant. Hyness's name may be a corruption of the word "highness", a title given to a person of royalty, or used in adressing them. This is the second last poem, about the series, and the 28th will be a special poem, a fun goodbye to the entirety of Kirby-Kuu, for this year at least. Page 112 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts The Three Mage Sisters, Francisca, the Frozen General, Flamberge, the Blazing General and Zan Partizanne, the Lightning General, the leader of the trio. This page, and the subsequent pages, show how heavily they changed through the design process, where they were once much more nun-like in appearance, where they are now more of a mix between militaristic and religious. The mages resemble stylized humanoids with disembodied hands and no visible feet. Each is dressed in a stylized depiction of a nun's habit, decorated with hearts; atop their heads, each wears a large cap similar to a military black beret bearing their signature symbol. The area where their necks and mouths would be are covered by a kind of neck gaiter. The character designs and names of the three mages are directly based on their weapons: a francisca (a throwing axe), a flamberge (a sword with an undulating blade), and a partisan (a type of polearm similar to a spear). Despite the word "sisters" in their group name, they are implied to be unrelated by blood; the word "sisters" also refers to the concept of a religious sisterhood. While this mystery is not given a definitive answer, with the Kirby Star Allies Channel playing it up, their pause screen descriptions in the Soul Melter EX difficulty of The Ultimate Choice describe how they were separate individuals who were each rescued from certain death by an anonymous figure (later confirmed in an interview to be Hyness) and imbued with the powers of the elements which would have killed them. Meta Knight appears in the intro cutscene for Kirby Star Allies, dusting off his sword before witnessing Jamba Heart pieces rain from the sky of Popstar. At some point, he is corrupted by a piece of the Jamba Heart, and Kirby is forced to fight him as the boss of Sacred Square. Upon his defeat, Meta Knight is freed from the Jamba Heart piece's corruption and becomes a playable Dream Friend. It is later revealed in Heroes in Another Dimension through Parallel Meta Knight's special page that prior to the events of Story Mode, Meta Knight was at Sacred Square to protect its residents from the raining Jamba Heart pieces before getting corrupted himself. When Kirby and friends arrive in the throne room of Castle Dedede, they can see King Dedede gorging himself on the (quite dirty) food, and King Dedede attacks Kirby's team immediately. Page 076 of Kirby Star Allies The Original Artbook depicts King Dedede again, but specifically, the beginning of the 3 pages of thumbnail sketches they used to plan out the boss fight and subsequent cutscenes. Once the second phase begins, Dedede is consumed by the power possessing him and becomes considerably beefier; his arms becoming huge and ripping through his robe. In this form, Dedede uses his massive arms to pummel Kirby and friends, as well as toss food, swing around columns, and break the floor away to reveal new arenas and (momentarily) separate Kirby's teammates. Once defeated, the dark heart pops out of King Dedede and he returns to normal (his robe also being inexplicably repaired), then passes out. If Kirby is fast near the end of this defeat sequence, they can toss a Friend Heart at King Dedede and recruit him right away as a Dream Friend. Queen Sectonia is a beauty-obsessed insectoid monarch and magician, and the primary antagonist of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, making her debut as the final boss of that game in various forms. Queen Sectonia is a power-hungry and half-crazed tyrant who sought to subjugate all of Floralia after gazing for too long into a certain mirror. She first appears in-game after Kirby beats Taranza, who was the queen's loyal servant, and Masked Dedede, who Taranza had been puppeteering. After she is defeated in battle, she combines with the Dreamstalk for her second phase. In The True Arena, this form is replaced with Soul of Sectonia, who has an additional phase. (Wikirby.com) Queen Sectonia used to more closely resemble Taranza, but parasitized countless hosts and changed her body each time, and eventually used her magic to inhabit the body of a large, lavishly decorated wasp. She bears a primarily blue and yellow-striped face and body, with a pink heart on her thorax. Her size and color scheme reflect the characteristics of the female Joro spider. The Joro spider is associated with the myth of the jorōgumo, a female arachnid yōkai that can shapeshift into a beautiful woman; this likely served as a major source of inspiration for Queen Sectonia, who once resembled a spider and transformed into a more beautiful appearance. Her design might also be a reference to the "wasp waist", a fashion trend that consisted of narrowing the waist through the use of corsets and girdle, named after a petiole (a two-segmented body joined by a thin abdoment) characteristic to wasps. Queen Sectonia is probably my favourite Boss character in the series, she made me realise that sometimes striving for more than you are can hurt the people around you who love you. It is good to be authentic, it is good to live independently, but if the people who love you are not hurting you and you try to push them away by purposefully changing yourself into a worse person, and wish to take the world over, and make everyone else feel your disdain for your insecurities, I speak as a Trans Woman, do not do that. You should practice self love, but you should realise who you are in collaboration with those that love you, and in that process, learn what you love about others, the world, and what it can offer in it's boundless beauty.

Page 123 of the Kirby Art and Style Collection Artbook depicts Magolor, the Lor Starcutter, and the Concept Art that led to designs relating to his boss fight later in the game, Kirby's Return To Dreamland/Kirby's Adventure on the Wii, and later on the Nintendo Switch, with Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe. Magolor is a cat-like alien magician who first appeared in Kirby's Return to Dream Land as the main antagonist. He is from another world, claims to live on the planet Halcandra, and commands a dimension-crossing starship called the Lor Starcutter. In his debut in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Magolor crashes the Lor Starcutter into Dream Land and scatters its parts and Energy Spheres all over Planet Popstar. Kirby and their friends aid Magolor by collecting these pieces to repair the ship, and he thanks them by taking the group to his homeworld, Halcandra. Once there, they are attacked by the guardian angel Landia, and Magolor requests that Kirby and their team defeat the dragon. When Landia is beaten, however, Magolor steals the dragon's Master Crown—revealing that he was after this powerful object the whole time—and then uses it to transform into a menacing final boss, aiming to rule over the entire universe. With help from Landia, Kirby and friends defeat him. The crown is shattered, Magolor returns to his normal state, and after making his way through another dimension, he eventually makes amends with Kirby. (Wikirby.com)

Page 123 extends to show the differing forms Magolor can take, especially that of the bottom left, which is entitled Magolor's Second Form, poisoned by the Master Crown, and led astray by his own greed. After Magolor is struck down with the Ultra Sword, the Master Crown takes control of him and transforms him into a ghostly form. His outfit has almost completely changed, with his scarf, his cape (which became torn and ghostly in his previous form), and his robe having all disappeared. Due to this, it is revealed he has a white mouth that, as the battle progresses, eventually turns out to contain a red eyeball inside, reminiscent of Zero and 0². In addition, his ears are larger and now point downwards from the sides of his body. His hands, which gained fingers in his previous form, now have black fingertips. The Master Crown's grip on Magolor also becomes much more evident, as its talon-like claws extend their grasp on him, with four claws gripping the bottom of his body and a large one spiraling down each ear. The claws at the top of the crown now join in at one joint instead of just attaching to the crown in separate areas. The crown itself also has four upside-down drop-shaped spikes coming up from the top of it, and has additionally sprouted large blue appendages. Page 110 of the Kirby Art and Style Collection Artbook depicts the ten Kirbys of Kirby Mass Attack journeying through the first two Levels of the game! Kirby Mass Attack is a spin-off Kirby game released for the Nintendo DS in 2011. It was co-developed by HAL Laboratory and ENGINES, a company that was founded by several former Flagship employees that had worked on Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby Squeak Squad, and published by Nintendo. The central premise revolves around using the Nintendo DS stylus to direct and guide up to ten otherwise small and helpless mini-Kirbys, who were split from the original by the game's villain Necrodeus in order to make the pink puffball easier to defeat. Instead of controlling the Kirbys directly, the player has to use the stylus to flick them around, tell them where to run, and drag them over obstacles when needed. A lot of micromanagement is needed to keep the Kirbys from perishing as they make their way through the stages, and if any are lost, the Kirbys will need to collect fruit in order to create new ones, with the player losing if all the Kirbys are defeated. The objective is to lead them through the stages until encountering and defeating Necrodeus at the very end, so that Kirby may become their whole self again. (Wikirby.com)

I realised while writing this Haiku that through each of these Levels' drawings that the number of Kirbys differ as they travel, a nod towards the loss of Kirbys as a game mechanic, which I specifically reference in the colour changing first line, alluding to when they are grayed out, they are struck from the ten, and the remainder are left to take on the levels! I feel the idea of Managing Many is just that, a resource management game, with Kirbys as the resource, which if you know your games, means that you die when you lose all ten of them! Galacta Knight (referred to as Aeon Hero in Quests in Super Kirby Clash) is a powerful recurring boss in the Kirby series, commonly referred to as an "ancient hero", the "Temporal Warrior", or "the greatest warrior in the galaxy". Galacta Knight greatly resembles Meta Knight, even being the same size, but sports key visual differences. His body is magenta in color, and his eyes behind his mask are magenta (red in games prior to Kirby Star Allies). His mask has a pointed cross-shaped visor on it instead of a horizontal slit. Unlike Meta Knight's bat wings, Galacta Knight has feathered angelic wings. Galacta Knight also has two golden horns protruding from his mask, unlike Meta Knight. He fights with a magenta lance and a shield with a four-pointed star on it, much like the design of his mask. (Wikirby.com)

There are many more bosses on this page, but I felt that I could not pass up the chance to use Galacta Knight as the focus. On the left column we have Meta Knight, Marx and Galacta Knight. On the right column we have Heavy Lobster, Galactic Nova and Masked Dedede. Galacta Knight made his debut as a surprise boss in Kirby Super Star Ultra. At the end of Meta Knightmare Ultra, Meta Knight meets Galactic Nova, who grants him one wish. Meta Knight wishes to fight the strongest warrior in the galaxy so that he may become stronger, so Nova summons Galacta Knight, who had been sealed away because of his immense power. After his defeat, Galacta Knight flies upwards, randomly starts teleporting and explodes, which causes him to lose his wings, lance and shield. (Wikirby.com)

Despite this, Knuckle Joe is a fairly notable character, making playable appearances as a helper in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, a friend in Kirby Star Allies, and a rider in Kirby Air Riders. Additionally, Knuckle Joe plays a recurring character role in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and appears as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and subsequent Super Smash Bros. titles. Page 089 of the Kirby Art and Style Collection Artbook depicts Kirby's wide array of Copy Abilities! These are specifically the ones found in Kirby Squeak Squad! The unique ones that are only in this game are Ghost, Magic, Bubble, Animal, UFO and Metal! Copy Ability is a catch-all term referring to Kirby's trademark ability to inherit and utilize the special powers and/or skills of the entities they swallow using their inhale. First introduced in Kirby's Adventure, this ability grants the pink puffball a potentially massive array of different methods of attack and means of traversing the lands they find themselves in. Starting with Kirby Super Star (though not becoming a consistent trait until Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land), acquiring a Copy Ability also bestows a unique hat, outfit, or other distinguishing feature upon Kirby, which serves as a quick-glance way to determine what kind of power they have obtained. Page 084 of the Kirby Art and Style Collection Artbook depicts many, many different enemies found in Kirby Canvas Curse, and most in the entire series as well! I know I usually name all of the creatures in the picture, but there are so many here, so I am just going to put an explanation of the top left lady, Drawcia! Drawcia (more formally Drawcia Sorceress) is a magical and malevolent being who has the power to turn the world around her into a living painting and cast various magical spells, including taking away Kirby's hands and feet and leaving them as a ball. She is the main antagonist and final boss of Kirby: Canvas Curse, responsible for placing a curse on Dream Land and its denizens, and whom Kirby must defeat with the help of the Magical Paintbrush, which used to belong to the sorceress. Despite her immense power, her origin and motives are completely unknown. Since her debut in Kirby: Canvas Curse, Drawcia has only made cameo appearances in subsequent Kirby titles. However, her design influence is vast on subsequent characters, particularly her possible relatives Paintra and Vividria, Claycia, and all of the subsequent Soul-form bosses that use Drawcia Soul's attacks. Then when Drawcia becomes tired from battle, Drawcia's Soul emerges! Drawcia Soul is a giant spherical ghostly creature made of paint that Drawcia turns into upon being defeated in her "Sorceress" form. Drawcia Soul serves as the final boss of Kirby: Canvas Curse, and is the first boss to have "Soul" addended to her name in the Kirby series. To date, she is also the only Soul boss who is fought in a main story mode, as opposed to only in an Extra Mode or Boss Endurance mode. Drawcia Soul resembles a giant ball of paint that frequently shifts in hue and drips along the bottom. On the ball is a face consisting of five eyes and a gaping mouth, all of which are yellow on the inside with no features. The ball is surrounded by a green ghostly aura that roils and shimmers. This implies Drawcia Soul's ethereal nature, as she seems to flicker and warp in shape like a projection of light rather than a real solid entity. (Wikirby.com)

These would have served as facial examples of what the playable characters are feeling in Canvas Curse. The following characters can be played in Story Mode stages. Beating each stage with each character is necessary for 100% completion: Kirby - Starts with 4 hit points. Has decent speed and can copy abilities. Can augment health using Medal Swap, up to 7. Waddle Dee - Unlocked once the game is completed as Kirby. Has 4 HP and otherwise is the same as Kirby, although somewhat more bouncy and cannot copy abilities. King Dedede - Unlockable at Medal Swap after game is completed as Kirby. He has 7 HP, and can attack by swinging a hammer in place or in midair before dashing, but is larger (and thus less nimble) than other characters. I think these are beautiful, absolutely amazing examples of the many ideas that had to go into the design process for the stages within this game. Note the top right where the direction was taking place, like my favourite one "Glowing Magma below casts Kirby's shadow up on the ceiling". This attention to detail really does appeal to me.✨️ Kirby Air Ride is a spin-off title released for the Nintendo GameCube, being the only Kirby game released for that system. It is a multiplayer racing game that takes place in full 3D environments, involving one or more Kirbys riding various means of transportation — from Warpstars to Wheelie Bikes — through race courses. Using only the Control Stick and the A button, the player can guide Kirby both on the ground and in the air with a complex number of maneuvers to master, in addition to making use of Kirby's signature inhale and Copy Ability to gain an advantage over the other racers. This time, in the bottom left, we get a good idea of the rough outline for City Trial's main stage. The timer is already present and the scale of the buildings already thought out. This just makes me happy y'all, please tell me what you think in the comments below!✨️ The most extensive and unorthodox mode in the game, City Trial does not focus solely on racing, unlike Air Ride and Top Ride. Instead, racers roam around in a large and open sandbox-like environment, collecting patches to power-up their machine, and then compete in the Stadium with other opponents when time runs out in the city. By default, which Stadium mode appears at the end is randomized, so racers will have to find and patch a machine that suits their particular playstyle and, with luck, will be useful in the final contest. To this end, racers can abandon their vehicles in order to find a new one better suited to their needs, though doing so exposes them to potentially have their patches stolen by rivals. Ado is the boss of Cloudy Park in Kirby's Dream Land 3. She is a human girl who came to Pop Star in order to practice painting; She is able to paint creatures that subsequently come to life and jump off the canvas. However, Ado became possessed by Dark Matter when it invaded Pop Star, thus forcing her to fight Kirby and their Animal Friends. Once defeated, she is freed from Dark Matter's influence. (Wikirby.com) Kirby's Dream Land 3 continues the central concept of its predecessor by featuring only eight basic copy abilities for Kirby to acquire, but allowing them to pair these abilities with one of their Animal Friends for a different effect. Instead of just three friends, however, Kirby has access to a total of six, with each one offering a different set of strengths and drawbacks, as well as providing unique combinations when paired with an ability. Kirby also has access to an expanded moveset, which includes the Slide technique, the Headbutt, and the Dash. Ado is controlled by Dark Matter, and yet, her painterly qualities still remain. Her desire, her drive, to pursue artistry, that originally brought her to Popstar, isn't killed, even after possession. I want to bring attention to how powerful that is. Yes, it makes her paintings come to life, but is that not something all artists strive for? The quality of your work is determined by many different things, but the concept of staying power making tangible, violent creatures, impresses me to a great degree. The only thing I wish I knew was why Ado and Adeleine look so similar?😕
