Text: The Butcher of the Forest | Premee Mohamed | Fantasy | Horror Surprisingly, I DNFed this book once before giving it a second shot, and I’m so glad I did. It just goes to show that sometimes you have the right book but at the wrong time. This book is a perfect little fairy tale with just the right amount of grotesquery. I, a huge fan of creepy forests and murderous creatures, ate this up in one sitting like I was starving.

voodoocactus's review of Beneath the Rising (Beneath the Rising #1) 4/5: Ohhhh nice! I generally don’t like 1st person POV books but here it worked! Nick is bewildered, awed, exasperated, and infuriated by Johnny’s everything and her brilliance is shining through the rambling and logical leaps Nick witnesses. I enjoyed the sense of creeping horror and the speculative AU world, the spine-tingling unease as Johnny and Nick run out of time and then out of…something else. There are some compelling twists and turns and an interesting resolution that makes me wonder what will happen in the next book.

So, finished reading The Annual Migration of Clouds by Premee Mohamed. Set on the U of Alberta campus in a post climate collapse future, it was strange to read references to places I have walked. The world build was great, characters well defined. Good stuff.
