Is the Y2K Bug Real? The Y2K bug was real. It was a date-handling flaw in many computer systems that stored years with two digits, so “00” could be misread as 1900 instead of 2000. Governments and companies spent hundreds of billions of dollars to find, fix, and test affected systems, which prevented widespread failures on 1 January 2000, although a number of smaller glitches did occur.

Y2K was real—and it worked as a wake-up call. Because fixes held, many think it was hype. Classic preparedness paradox. Next on the timeline: the 2038 bug. Ready? #2038Problem #PreparednessParadox #RiskManagement #Y2KBug #Year2000Problem

It’s called the #PreparednessParadox:

Preparation for a danger (pandemic, natural disaster, etc) can help people avoid that danger. People who successfully avoid the danger don’t see the consequences from it, and then they wrongly conclude the danger wasn’t so bad to begin with, after all.
