On 26 March 2025, #ProjectoVito recorded 150+ #seabird carcasses in Tantum harbour (Brava, #CaboVerde), just weeks after EDEC SA replaced yellow street & port lights with intense white LEDs tinyurl.com/5n833ha6 EDEC SA claims no clear link with the deaths. You be the judge @irbio-ub.bsky.social
Fishermen predated them in the past. Boobies still breed in Brava, but on unaccessible cliffs that are not optimal for them. Fortunately, thanks to the great work of the local NGO #ProjectoVito with the fishermen community, we think now there are good conditions for boobies to breed again in Cima

Centuries ago, thousands of brown #boobies bred on Cima, #CaboVerde. By the 1980s, they were gone. Today, in collaboration with #ProjectoVito, we placed five decoy pairs on the islet to lure them back. Hoping to see them thrive here once more!
