In the early 60s, Bruce Kidd was preparing to represent Canada at the Olympics. He had just received the Lou Marsh award as Canada’s top athlete, and he was speaking at an event and being critical of the way gambling had infiltrated the sports world.
Canada legalized single-event sports betting in 2021. In the three years that followed, gambling on sporting events in the country rose tenfold. Our young people are particularly vulnerable, and have been specifically affected.
