during trip to NYC, we sought out this 1/1200 scale geographic model of the 5 boroughs of NYC. The display fills a 10,000 sqft room in #QueensMuseum.
>400 sq miles reduced to 1/4 acre! 👀
This model was built 1964 & updated in 1998. So... some changes in the skyline since.

We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming #digitalexhibition — Exhibiting JAPAN (opening March 2026)! 🇯🇵

Our recent research visit to the #QueensMuseum explored the 1939 World’s Fair and architect Uchida Yoshikazu, who brought #JapaneseModernism to the world stage.

This vibrant and colorful painting, by Mexican artist Aliza Nisenbaum, depicts Carmen as a beautiful mature woman with bronze hair wearing a colorful floral embroidered Mexican huipil blouse plus large blue and white beaded earrings and necklace. She looks to her left. Behind her is a solid red and tan background.

Born in Mexico City, Aliza Nisenbaum paints portraits that are the manifestation of exchanges with her subjects, taking place over time. Distinct social groups are at the foreground of her work, including immigrants, dancers, members of grassroot organizations, and subway and health workers. She engages with these groups on various levels, sharing resources, skills, and ultimately, social representation.

Nisenbaum has said that she is influenced by Mexican muralists such as Diego Rivera, and writer Amy Sherlock has suggested that Nisenbaum's work is a form of social practice. Her work has been included in notable solo and group exhibitions and is included in multiple collections of museums around the world. She is a professor at Columbia University's School of the Arts.

Yes! Remembering Maintenance Art, the great exhibition of her work at the #QueensMuseum back in 2016. A true heroine of mine.
