Renée Vivien, all velvet and venom, was a poetess who made the body a battlefield and desire a language.
This seminar by S. Brennan Kettelle is a rare deep dive into Vivien's world. Have a look!

MP Book Reviews on Instagram: "Review: How to Be Gay By Valentine's Day by Sarah Jayne 4 of 5 stars Gavin grew up in a small town where liking guys wasn’t even presented as an option. Now on the West Coast and finally acknowledging his attraction to men, he looks for someone confident and out to help him figure things out. Sebastian, a stressed med student who can handle complex science but panics at public speaking, ends up paired with Gavin — a huge, sweet, slightly clueless jock. Gavin offers to help him pass the class if Sebastian teaches him “how to be gay.” Their deal quickly turns into something deeper in this sunshine‑and‑grump, bi‑awakening romance filled with meddling frat brothers and a homophobic family that really should stay away. This was such a sweet, emotional story, and the connection between Gavin and Sebastian is undeniable from the moment their deal begins. Even though they come from very different worlds — and both carry their own hurts — they fit together in a way that feels natural and deeply heartfelt. One of my favourite parts was the support Gavin received from his frat brothers and the football team. Their easy acceptance and genuine protectiveness gave the story so much warmth, especially in contrast to the negativity coming from elsewhere in his life. Sebastian, meanwhile, was absolutely adorable, and his wonderfully geeky housemates added the perfect dose of chaotic, loving energy. The mix of humour, vulnerability, and emotional growth made this a lovely, feelings‑filled read. A gentle, affirming romance with two characters who truly deserved the happiness they found in each other. This was an MM story with mature content. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0G2KDTGQX" 0 likes, 0 comments - mp_book_reviews on March 21, 2026: "Review: How to Be Gay By Valentine's Day by Sarah Jayne 4 of 5 stars Gavin grew up in a small town where liking guys wasn’t even presented as an option. “Queer Exiles” with Ben Robbins From Christopher Isherwood to Djuna Barnes, some of the most prolific queer writers of the 20th century wrote in exile. Ben Robbins joins me to explain how and why queer writers connected with each other in exile and how (in)voluntary movement shaped their stories. Ben shares some surprising encounters from the archives and paints a picture of some of the locations of queer exile: Berlin, Tangier and Capri.   References: Networked Narratives: Queer Exile Literature 1900-1969 Funded by the Austrian Science Fund/FWF (Project DOI: 10.55776/P35199)   https://www.uibk.ac.at/projects/networkednarratives/ Ben Robbins’ “‘Marriages ought to be secret’: Queer Marriages of Convenience and the Exile Narrative” JAAAS: Journal of the Austrian Association for American Studies, vol. 5, no. 1, Dec. 2023, pp. 100–122, https://doi.org/10.47060/jaaas.v5i1.173. MP Book Reviews on Instagram: "Review: Saddle to Sunup by Emmy Sanders 5 of 5 stars Lawson’s life has been unravelling ever since his best friend Oakley abruptly left town three years ago. Between a divorce, moving back to his childhood room on the Darling Ranch, and questioning his own sexuality, Lawson realizes that Oakley’s absence left a deeper wound than he ever admitted. Determined to bring Oakley home, Lawson sets out to reconnect — and quickly discovers that the cowboy who gave him his first kiss might also be the one he’s never stopped wanting. Their reunion sparks a tender, slow‑burn friends‑to‑lovers journey filled with queer awakening, second‑chance longing, playful banter, and the possibility of forever. In small‑town Montana, Lawson begins to understand that getting “back in the saddle” might mean falling in love with the man who once promised him everything. I loved this story which was rich with emotional depth, identity exploration, and the quiet ache of a love that never really went away. I loved that the story challenged the idea that self‑discovery is only for the young and that awakening isn’t a crisis; it’s a reclamation of truth that’s been waiting beneath the surface. I also loved that Lawson's fear of losing a lifelong friendship with Oakley collided with the desire for something more showing that love grows not from sudden passion but from years of trust, history, and quiet devotion. Just so many emotions and feelings that were all written well so that they were easy to feel and understand. It will likely give you some tears as you get swept away. This was an MM story with mature content. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0F4Y5DN58" 0 likes, 0 comments - mp_book_reviews on January 13, 2026: "Review: Saddle to Sunup by Emmy Sanders 5 of 5 stars Lawson’s life has been unravelling ever since his best friend Oakley abruptly left town three years ago. MP Book Reviews on Instagram: "Review: Star Stakes by Merry Farmer 4 of 5 stars Casper, a shy historian who feels invisible, meets rising film star Sawyer, whose sudden fame brings intense scrutiny about his sexuality. Despite the chaos of celebrity life and Sawyer’s worries about being “enough” due to his borderline ace identity, the two form a tender connection. As they navigate media pressure, public expectations, and their own insecurities, they fight to build a relationship defined by authenticity, understanding, and love on their own terms. I loved this story that challenged rigid expectations of what queer love “should” look like and their romance bridged extremes — Casper learnt to be seen, Sawyer learnt to be known. I also loved that Casper lives in his head: History, research, and analysis are his comfort zones whereas Sawyer lives in the moment: Acting, improvisation, emotional instinct, but, their connection blended thoughtfulness with spontaneity, showing how opposites can create balance. I did enjoy reading a book where the characters were on the demisexual/asexual spectrum and found a way to make their relationship work showing that a true connection is built through mutual understanding, not external approval. They really were perfect for each other. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CW19R9DB" 0 likes, 0 comments - mp_book_reviews on January 10, 2026: "Review: Star Stakes by Merry Farmer 4 of 5 stars Casper, a shy historian who feels invisible, meets rising film star Sawyer, whose sudden fame brings intense scrutiny about his sexuality. Maurice, E. M. Forster

Written in 1914 and published after Forster’s death, Maurice is a quiet revolution. In an era that denied queer futures, it dares to insist on happiness. A foundational LGBTQ+ novel that still refuses tragedy as destiny.

On this day in queer history: 1 January 1906

Imre: A Memorandum was published, one of the earliest American gay novels with a happy ending. Written by Edward Prime-Stevenson, it offered queer love and hope at a time when both were rarely allowed in print.

Happy Birthday E. M. Forster!
January 1, 1879

Author of Maurice, he imagined a happy ending for gay love decades before it was allowed to exist publicly.
