↙️ I was on CertifHy 2 Work Group 1, "GO scheme and procedures" 9 years ago, working on EU Guarantees of Origin for low-carbon hydrogen.
↘️I'm glad to see that this good #CertifhyEU work is being implemented, enabling today's #RFNBO hydrogen certifications.

⚡ Europe’s #RFNBO rules are under debate. MEPs call for an earlier review to prevent delays in renewable hydrogen and #PowerToX projects.

Doug, if data centres can be fast-tracked for 50GW of power capacity, what does that say about the #RFNBO regulations?
Simplification, deregulation, streamlining.. erm, but producing hydrogen from water and electricity is banned

The reality is that this nuclear will be converted to hydrogen, diurnally. Cutting output to 20% at the same price means free electricity.
They will start with 4.5GW of electrolysis. There have been a few delays with EU #RFNBO and state aid rules, but nuclear electrolysis will be inexpensive

Anything about hydrogen, fucked up #RFNBO rules, #AFIR etc = helpful
Anything against this = evil plot to take over the planet, with batteries (asshole)
But they still block hydrogen via the #RFNBO rules. A full year of universal criticism, and still Dan Jørgensen is far happier to chat with Jan Rosenow about €10k heat pumps and batteries (!) to get us all the way to net zero
Electrolysis must be connected to the grid (!), as set out by the EU Sectoral Integration strategy and numerous reports. It is cynicism bordering on fraud to not act on the avalanche of criticism placed against the current (revised) #RFNBO / #DelegatedActs 'rules'
And yes, France does have 62.9GW of nuclear capacity that could easily and effectively be used at night. The single gigawatt of electrolysis set out last week by Agnes Pannier-Runacher seems a bit paltry

Tomorrow's energy is hydrogen, not oil. It is already cheaper than oil, if strong policy supports the necessary infrastructure. Thankfully, France has already realised that the #RFNBO rules only protect #fossilfuelsubsidies
A year in #RFNBO criticisms ⬇️
In a time of general 'simplification', it is baffling that the Commission adhere to a set of rules which intrinsically block the development of the hydrogen industry
Criticisms of the EU #RFNBO and #DelegatedActs 'rules' regarding what constitutes green hydrogen
Now 5 years delayed, a new revision is slated for 2028 - but they continue to unnecessarily block the hydrogen industry, presenting a convoluted set of unworkable criteria

Spain will also achieve low combined solar/wind prices for electrolysis, but are currently delayed by the EU #RFNBO rules, which need to be rectified
New infographic for the New Year in planning. A quarter to a third of the EU energy system is switching to #hydrogen
Everything in place and on schedule except for one problem, which is incredibly simple to fix

'China surpasses 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity under development for the first time'
This is equivalent to the EU's entire (domestic) #REPowerEU target, with 5 years to go
#hydrogen #RFNBO #REDIII #AFIR
Given the vast subsidies awarded to electricity grids, renewables, EVs, batteries and the fossil fuel industry itself; the main take-away is that *more state + EU level support is needed* to reach stated goals, with a clear framework to support member states at EU level
#hydrogen #REDIII #RFNBO
After a five year delay in arriving at workable rules for subsidy payments for the emerging #hydrogen economy, the Commission have now set back a revision to the end of 2026 - which means that investment decisions cannot be made, and the fossil economy remains

The European Commission's energy department are playing a cynical game, and sabotaging EU industry is their intention. This is a *premeditated plot*, not an oversight
"Letters to the European Commission over EU green hydrogen regulations are mounting up"
#RFNBO #AFIR
With no certainty on either the #DelegatedActs or #RFNBO rules, European heavy industry and automotive sectors cannot move forward, cannot decarbonise, and are forced to try to follow the failed logic of a Battery-Powered Everything™ pathway
So, the EC are undermining EU industry intentionally
Everyone from the IEA, the EU Parliament, every EU energy minister and every trade and industry body have criticised the Commission's obvious blocking of the industry
