Finally the Nightmare Man. 2e #dnd suggested he was the darklord, but I like him as the personification of ever-present anxiety dreams, making him the strongest but also least defined. Rather than the grim reaper imagery, I like something nebulous like the Whistler from #RadiantCitadel.

Good morning! Today in the #ttrpg AP research sem we’re talking representation. We’ll see #dnd’s history & interventions like #radiantcitadel & ISLANDS OF SINA UNA, resources like @mustangsart’s Combat Wheelchair, new systems like @MotherlandsRPG & @CoyoteNCrowRPG, & more.

Real thing I said in office hours today: "do you think you want to go more in an @nirele #RadiantCitadel direction or are you thinking more @worldofdarkness? Either would be cool."

And I’m dazed to think that eleven months ago this week @quiddie & my students & I were talking about GOOD SOCIETY, ripping #dnd from its Tolkien-steeped roots, Southern-fried Strahd, & now there’s #FeyandFlowers & #RadiantCitadel & more.

One of the other things we talked about was how @aimeecarrero & she crafted Byroden using Laredo as inspiration & a southern-fried Strahd.

No word on that last bit, but when @nirele’s infusion of the South in #RadiantCitadel was announced I thought of that day, & my students.

Ideological stances naturalised in #dnd protostory:
- capitalism
- secularism
- urbanocentrism
- pseudo-medievalism
- consumerism

(interesting to see how much #RadiantCitadel can counter this - as noted, it's HARD)
